'Priest' movie posterI’ve been a bit under the weather this week and was debating if I wanted to actually use what energy reserves I have to go see Priest in my local Century 20 Downtown Redwood City and XD theater, but alas, after checking out the website Movie Review Intelligence, I think I might save my energy for another day.

Of the new movies at the box office this weekend, Bridesmaids is getting a surprising 84% positive reviews while Priest is only pulling in 41% positive rated reviews.  But then I noticed that there are only 4 reviews for Priest while Bridesmaids has 45 reviews.

Does this indicate that there were no early screenings for Priest from the studios?  That’s never a good sign to me.  I cruised the ‘net to see what was out there and what I saw was…

IGN says

“Priest offers enough action and cool bits to probably hold the interest of most 14-year-old boys, but its hodgepodge story and overall derivative nature make it feel like a movie that should have come out back in the ’90s.” [3.5 / 5]

JONAH HEX - starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox

Jonah Hex starred Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender and Will Arnett. Its runtime was 1 hour and 21 minutes. It was rated PG-13. (OK, still is actually.) Despite what looked like an awesome fun cast, it didn’t seem to help how the movie performed at the box office.

The movie was based on the DC Comics title of the same name.

The budget for the movie cost Warner Bros. Entertainment and Legendary Pictures an estimated $47 million and it made about half of its money on opening weekend. No, not half of the investment.  It made half of its total take on the opening weekend and it didn’t do so hot on opening weekend.  To be honest, to sat it crashed at the box office would imply it took off.  It didn’t.

It’s been out for 53 days at the time of this article and it has only brought in just over $10.5 million.

RottenTomatoes Movie Site Has Been Sold

January 6, 2010

I’m sure you’ve read it somewhere already, but just in case you haven’t heard the news, Flixter bought News Corp’s movie review website, RottenTomatoes. News Corp (Parent company of Fox) will remain as a minority stake holder. This is really no surprise, considering these two sites have partnered up before, so the aggregate “they” have [...]
