Superman by Sean IzaakseRight now Deadline New York is reporting that Russell Crowe is in talks to take up the mantle of the iconic Krytonian father-figure of Jor-El in the Zack Snyder directed movie, Man of Steel. The screenplay credits include David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan. Nolan is also producing.

If Crowe does close the deal, he’ll be joining an interesting cast that has already been set up…

  • Amy Adams will be playing the love interest of Lois Lane,
  • Henry Cavill will be playing Clark Kent,
  • Kevin Costner will be playing the Earth-bound adoptive father of Jonathan Kent, while Diane Lane will play Martha Kent.

Other rumors out there include Michael Shannon could be playing Zod while Antje Traue will be playing a character named Faora.  There’s no word on the rumors that were flying around that the presence of Lex Luthor will be one of the characters.  Gads, I’m hoping no, but with Nolan behind it, I have some faith.

Now my question is, will this Man of Steel screenplay incorporate the whole-sale changes that are coming down the pipe for the DC Universe when they reimagine their entire line of titles, or what?

(There’s more coming on that in a subsequent post.)
