sanctuary

Has Sanctuary Been Canceled By Syfy?  To be honest, fans have no hard evidence via press reports or Twitter slips by any of the cast or crew of Sanctuary.  But fans are wondering and circumstantial evidence seems to be adding up.

There is speculation out on the web that the Syfy series Sanctuary may not be coming back for a fifth season on the Comcast owned, NBC subsidiary network.  And in the wake of how the much beloved Eureka TV series was canceled, making the upcoming fifth season in 2012 of Eureka its last, the speculations have me wondering.

This article was sparked around by a readers’ email I received today and I thought that they brought up some good points that I’d share with you, my readers.  In addition, I slap out a few more tidbits that I dug up out on the web.

The reader points will be labeled ‘RP.’

-

RP: The Syfy network has had nothing to say about another season for Sanctuary.

Yep… no news is usually good news and with the Syfy network, they tend to stall their announcements to as late as possible with any of their programming.

I’ve touched no this previously, surmising that when other other networks already know their lineups, Syfy usually waits to make their announcements.  I think it’s a marketing game because I can’t imagine any business like a TV cable network not knowing their schedule so few months ahead of time.

-

RP:  The title of the season (series?) finale “Sanctuary for None” is the exact opposite of the series beginning “Sanctuary for All.” There was no cliffhanger ending.

Can’t disagree with the observation!  I like it.

Emilie Ullerup in a still from SanctuaryWhat’s Emilie Ullerup been up to these days?  I came across a few things over the last week and thought I’d share…  check it out:

In case you’ve been watching the slowly fading Syfy channel TV show, Sanctuary, I’m wondering if you were as confused as I was?

First up, was the “special episode” they aired last Tuesday.  For some silly reason, I thought it was going to a new episode in addition to what was coming out in their usual Friday time slot.  It wasn’t.  The Sanctuary episode aired on Tuesday and then again on Friday.

So if you’re worried that you missed one of them, but caught the other, don’t fret.  You missed nothing.

-

But more importantly, if you did see the episode, then you caught that flashback scene where fans got a quick glimpse of Emilie Ullerup, where Adam is mind-fraking* with Helen, showing her visuals while she was trapped in a virtual world.

My eyebrows went up, wondering what was up there.  Well,  it’s a flashback and was not a new scene.

Plus I had just received some news a the entire Farscape series coming to Blu-ray.  No, Farscape is not coming out this week, but at a later date.  But I thought it’s cool news for fans of the series I thought I’d share!

Syfy Channel News

If you’re curious about what’s coming up in the September, October & December time-frame from the Syfy channel, check it out, I snagged info from their press release about their TV lineups for those months.

Syfy Logo

First up, in September, is Paranormal Witness which premieres on September 7th at 10PM.  It’s a bit of a ‘Let me tell you what I’ve seen’ kind of show.

“This tense, filmic and high-octane drama-documentary series brings to life the stories of people who have lived through paranormal experiences that defy explanation. Using a mixture of intimate first-hand testimony, actual home video and gritty realistic drama, Paranormal Witness transports the audience into a world turned upside down by extraordinary and terrifying events.”

October

Syfy channel is unleashing a month-long effort to scare the crap out of you… or at least keep you entertained to some degree or another.

Syfy ChannelCinema Static disclaimer:  This observational piece does not mean I am on their side.  This is a neutral observation, motivated first by frustration as a viewer, but tempered with the business minded eye of the writer.

Albeit, everywhere I look, the Syfy channel is taking a beating in the social network circles everywhere I go.  It ranges from polite observations to the more visceral reactions.  But through it all the shift we’re seeing at Syfy is signifying that when NBC/Syfy hired Dave Howe way back in what, 2001, is doing his job, as expected and promised.

-

With the cancellation of Stargate Universe and the moving of Sanctuary to the doomed slot of Monday nights, Syfy channel can’t seem to make a move on a social network without taking a beating about it.

Over on Facebook, Syfy cranked out a note trying to pump up the theme of sci-fi Mondays. It looks like a tactical move to support SGU and the newly appointed Monday night show, Sanctuary.  That didn’t go too well.  The Syfy account took a trashing with 208 funderful comments.  Still, there were 384 folks who ‘liked’ the reminder.

In another post, to remind folks about Stargate Universe‘s upcoming episode, they pretty much took 214 trasher comments about bringing the show back or not cancelling it.  Meanwhile 456 folks ‘liked’ the reminder.

The Syfy Channel LogoSarah Connor Chronicles Programming Block Pulled

A while back, the Syfy channel snagged the airing rights to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and started airing the show in 4 hour chunks of time on Thursdays.  When I first reported this TSCC development [Syfy to air TSCC] in February, I questioned the validity of burning through an entire series in such short order.

I also started wondering how little help that would be for the network to blast us for four hours at a time and if viewers actually had the time to take away from other shows to watch Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles?

I mean seriously?

Now TV By the Numbers has reported that Syfy is pulling the TSCC mini-marathons and replacing it with ST:TNG mini-thons.  (Star Trek: The Next Generation)  This replacement takes place next week.

Syfy ChannelThe Syfy Channel has announced the return dates for several series and some of their upcoming Saturday Night “Original” movies. (Sigh. You’ll see in a moment.)

First up, the returning TV series coming back to the Syfy Channel:

Stargate Universe– Monday, March 7

Sanctuary – Friday, April 15

Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files – Season 2 Premiere March 23

Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen – Series Premiere March 22

Destination Truth: Live St. Patrick’s Day Investigation — March 17

The return of Stargate Universe (SGU) marks the return of the final ten episodes of the series as it signs off for the final time since the show was not renewed. SGU stars the most excellent Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Ming-Na, Alaina Huffman and more. I know it is not possible, but wouldn’t it be funny if a huge amount of people tuned it, giving it huge numbers? Eh, don’t worry, March 7th is a Monday, taking it off of the Tuesday death slot the first half of the second season aired in.
