Cinema Static TV Review:  NBC’s Grimm takes you back to the day when you could sit down and enjoy a fun monster-bashing show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and do a good job of mixing the monsters in with the humans!

Grimm on NBC

A TV Review of NBC’s Grimm:

David Giuntoli in GrimmGrimm, inspired by the classic “Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” stars David Giuntoli, whose last regular role was in 2008′s Privileged.  Giuntoli plays Nick Burkhardt, a homicide detective whose family lineage thrusts him smack-dab in the middle of the front lines against fairy tale monsters that exist in our world.

Those fairy tale monsters are the quaint classics we’ve all heard about at one time or another, but as adults, we’ve given no further thought to.

In the season premiere, Nick Burkhardt had no clue what his family did until one day, he started seeing strangeness all about him in the guise of humans wearing monster faces that flicker in and out of his vision.  But only his vision.  (To be accurate, these are monsters living in our world, looking like humans,)

His Aunt Marie (Kate Burton) apprises him of who he really is, a monster hunter from the clan of Grimm.  And all the monsters are aware of the Grimms.

Caprica A Cylon assembly line

The season premiere of Ronald D. Moore‘s Caprica, in its 1.5th season on the Syfy Channel, kicked it in gear with the story picking it up some weeks after the events that unfolded in the previous episode, the mid-season finale.

If you remember, a car blew up but Clarice (Polly Walker) wasn’t in it.  Amanda Graystone (Paula Malcomson) was stepping off a very tall ledge on a bridge, we also saw Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) get removed from the virtual city by his daughter and Zoe/Cylon (Alessandra Torresani) drove a stolen van into a police barricade, destroying the van.

Most of these and other story lines are continued in the mid-season premiere of Caprica titled “Unvanquished.”

Indeed.

Caprica Episode Review

-

We open the episode with Daniel Graystone (Eric Stolz) disheveled on his couch.  He’s lost his wife, the  Virgis corporation has taken over Graystone industries and to make matters worse, they’ve apparently copied the chip from Zoe’s Cylon and have transplanted the fighting skills from that chip into production models rolling off the assembly line.
