New Movies at the movie theater from Cinema Static 2011 logo 475w lqHere we are checking in on the new movies coming out in theaters this Friday, Sept 16th.

If you’re a fan of Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård, or Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan, then you’re in luck with this weekend’s new movies.

But don’t worry.  Fans of Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Dominic Purcell, Walton Goggins, Christina Hendricks or Olivia Munn are also in luck!

And yes, I said Lion King.  It’s being re-released in 3D to theaters for a short time if anyone is interested in seeing it in such.

First up, a short chat about an actor I’ve had my eye on for a while, then my box office prediction for the weekend, a seriously short snippet on last weekend’s top-10 movies and then movie synopsis and movie clips for this weekend’s new movies coming out this Friday, September 16th, 2011.  And of course, a link out to the production status of different, upcoming movies.

Walton Goggins

Walton Goggins in JustifiedI caught Walton Goggins’ name in the credits of a movie coming out this week and thought I’d say a word about the man.  I don’t know about you, but I’m just waiting for Walton Goggins to finally get a main or leading role.  In my eyes, from the myriad of characters I’ve seen him play, from Detective Vendrell in The Shield; Boyd Crowder in Justified; to the boat load of movies he’s been in… ie: The crazy criminal in Predators and his part in Cowboys & Aliens, he runs a huge gamut of characterizations.

He may not have the exposure that Alan Tudyk has, who is another incredibly versatile actor, but Walton Goggins is someone I enjoy seeing in movies and TV shows.  I’m just waiting for him to get a major role and get recognized.  (That’s my very long way of saying Walton Goggins is under-rated.)

New Movies at the Box Office

•      Drive

This movie is being distributed by FilmDistrict studios and is about

“A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.”

It’s directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising, Bronson) and stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Oscar Isaac, Christina Hendricks and Ron Perlman.

For my So Cal site visitors… in the clip below, does anyone recognize a few of the locations?  One loc is Saugus Speedway in my old haunting grounds of Santa Clarita, CA.  The popular short-track venue where I used to watch Ron Hornaday run that yellow car of his!  The other location where the mustang does that U-turn and drives backwards?  That small road leads to an old fishing hole I used to hit up.  Anyone recognize where?  Just north of Templin Highway?  In fact if you go see the movie, you’ll see a lot of So Cal locations.

After 106 years of servicing the racing fan, the Milwaukee Mile is off the NASCAR schedule for 2010 and the track promoters have found themselves some financial issues.

It’s a shame to see a good track go dark.  Much like when Mesa Marin near Bakersfield went dark for property developers.  Grr.

With Mesa Marin, though I was extremely sad to see them go dark, they tried reopening at a different location but their re-opening has been held up by permit issues and financial situations.
