Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Joss Whedon has been shooting a movie called Much Ado About Nothing.  It was shot in black and white and done in only 12 days, on location in Santa Monica. With his new production company, called Bellwether Pictures, which is focused on the production of small, independent narratives for all media, embracing a DYI ethos.  (Thank you Dr. Horrible!)

We all know that Joss Whedon has been working on The Avengers, a movie many a fan can’t wait to see.  We also know that when he sets his mind to keeping something under wraps, he can do that too.  (Case in point… the plot to The Cabin in the Woods.  I have seen the behind-the-scenes outline, and I think Whedon fans will love this!)

But while he’s been working feverishly on The Avengers, at least I presume, that’s where all his time has been spent.  But now it seems that he’s been lurking about with something else in his back pocket.

A movie called Much Ado About Nothing.  It was shot in black and white and done in only 12 days, on location in Santa Monica.

The website for the film says it’s a film by Joss Whedon, based on a play.  LOL…

Comic Con Images

The 2011 International Comic Con event that took place in San Diego in July is close to one of the biggest fan-gatherings for the entertainment venues that covers comic books, film and TV.  More specifically, a specific genre of the entertainment industry that entails fantasy & sci fi.

"Comic Con" News

This year fans and media flocked to the San Diego Convention Center and tales of fun and whoa were both regaled from folks I chatted with.  This year, it seemed that you needed to place yourself in line much earlier than normal to get to your chosen panel for your favorite movie or TV show.  For one, I’ve never heard tales before of fans getting in a line for a show 3 hours early and not getting into the panel they wanted, but that’s what I did hear from several folks that I chatted up in San Diego over that weekend.

But one of the things folks get to see and do is take pictures of cool things.

New Movies & TV on DVD and Blu-ray

The list of new DVD and Blu-ray releases this week tally in the mid-300′s.  Is that crazy or what?  Amongst the new discs coming out this week, the bigger names include Season of the Witch and Sucker Punch.  Older titled finally landing on Blu-ray isn’t huge, but there is Ron Howard’s Apollo 13 and Joss Whedon’s Serenity Blu-ray combo pack being released.

And yes, the highly anticipated release of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy is coming out on Blu-ray!

I’m amazed I got this out, even if it is a day later than usual!  I spent the weekend covering the NASCAR event at Sonoma as a press photographer and found myself pretty busy with that.  I had a great time and even got a hot-lap around the track from a professional driver.  (I now know how all my passengers feel!  Gads, my apologies to everyone!)

(*Being up front with you:  All links go to Amazon pages and products.)

Titles new to Blu-ray include

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Edition + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] Starring Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen

  • Zathura (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)
  • Van Helsing [Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy] Starring Hugh Jackman and Richard Roxburgh

Summer Glau and Nathan Fillion, two stars from 'Firefly' Series from Joss Whedon

A few weeks back Nathan Fillion had made a statement that amounted to what I could only surmise as a inner-secret wish but not something serious, when he said if he won the lottery, he’d buy the rights to Firefly.  The idea of Nathan Fillion buying the Firefly rights is a pretty exciting prospect.  In what I anticipated, there were a few others that showed a supportive mode of thought, a few other Firefly alumni, in both the showrunner and cast side, added to the hopes by saying that they support such a thought.

Fans went nuts.  Firefly fans are diehard Browncoats and any shred of hope is something that fans hang onto.  That’s why when they hear of something developing, they grasp that hope with every once of strength and not let go.  In fact some charge forward, hoping against the odds, that if they push this little snowball down the hill, it will roll, pick up some speed, some size, and become an unstoppable force.

Firefly fans are some of the best, most dedicated fans I think I’ve ever seen and I don’t blame them.

-

One fan group immediately started collecting pledges (not cash) for donations that would facilitate Nathan Fillion not having to win the lottery, but rather, fund his very idea of his being able to buy the rights.  But alas, some facts started to come to light about this dream and things started to slow down a bit and they’ve stopped actively collecting pledges.

-

The first bit of fact was that the idea that 20th Century Fox would actually sell the rights seemed far-fetched at best.  Would you sell a cash cow?  OK, it might not be a cash cow, put it is some stream of income somewhere, as networks continue to pay for the rights to air Firefly and people continue to purchase the series on DVD, where ever that money may go!

Iron Man 3 News

Iron Man 3 Movie

Johnny Nguyen, whose stunt work can be seen in Jarhead, Serenity, Collateral, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man and other movies, has announced that he’s been hired to do the fight coordination for Iron Man 3.  He’s also been hired for the same position for The Avengers.

But he isn’t waiting around for work.  He started doing his stunt double work and fight coordination for X-Men First Class on Friday, November 12th.  He’s a busy guy working on some busy movies.

From the sounds of things Disney is charging ahead hard with the Iron Man 3 project and that’s great news.  There’s a lot of material to work from that the franchise has to offer.

Cinema Static on Brusimm logo

This Brusimm roundup chats about Transformers 3 & Batman 3.  A bit on a new online Serenity comic, Emilie Ullerup, Skyline and auditions info on America’s Got Talent.  We also have some incidental info on Grey’s Anatomy, Caprica apples and a bit on a Gizmodo site vent!  Pretty interesting stuff… if that’s what you like.

Transformers 3, Transformers Dark of the Moon promo art logo

Word on the street is that it is post production time for Transformers 3, (Transformers Dark of the Moon).  Principal shooting has come to an end and now it is time to start adding the magic of CGI and inserting Transformers into the story.  It’s been fun watching the details of the film shoots and now I’m betting we’ll start seeing teaser and preview trailers pretty soon to keep our appetites whet.

The Dark Knight Rises

There’s a rumor that it’s possible that Christopher Nolan may be shooting The Dark Knight Rises completely in IMAX.  That rumor is boosted by the rumor that IMAX has finally made a camera small enough that you don’t need a jeep or helicopter to manhadle it!

Sweet.  Of course that’s a double rumor report so we’ll have to wait and see.

Almost Update:  An update is when you’ve gone to “print” and corrected the info.  In this case, I found out that they won’t be shooting the entire film in IMAX… just as much as they can.

Serenity Firefly class ship cut-away

Aside from Joss Whedon having created Firefly, and hence, the Firefly-class spaceship, Serenity, I think the Serenity Architectural Cutaway Poster Set is the absolute must for any hardcore Firefly / Serenity fan and possibly the neatest thing since sliced bread! (Though technically, I think the invention of the knife trumped the sliced bread thing… or you couldn’t have sliced bread!)

I’ve always been keen on blueprints and cutaways from my favorite Sci fi shows.  I have the blue prints from the original Star Trek series Enterprise and it’s a valued treasure of mine, but I think I might be spying a new valued, shiny treasure!

The Serenity Architectural Cutaway Poster Set is brought to us from illustrator John Mullaney, it took three years to pull together and it’s loaded with details like you would never imagine!

Nathan Fillion stars in CASTLE

Nathan Fillion is one of the funnier dramatic actors I know.  Or mayhaps, I should say that I’ve seen.  This hilarious video interview between Bob Stencil and Nathan Fillion could be evidence to that.  Watch the disdain and concern that Fillion shows during the interview.  By interview’s end, Nathan Fillion has found himself signed up for the next Firefly movie, called Serenity 2!  LOL.

This is why Nathan Fillion is so popular with the fans. He plays along wonderfully and is a real trooper for putting up with all the lifelong Firefly / Serenity fans that just can’t get enough.

2010 Comic-Con News from Cinema Static

The 2010 Comic-Con event in San Diego is a pretty fun event to attend.  For some, it’s a one-day event and for others, it’s the entire weekend.  For the TV and movie fan, it can be a blast to attend one of the many panels and see your favorite stars in-person!  This year, as in other years, TV shows have their events in Ballroom 20.  It’s not quite as big as Hall H, where they hold the movie panels and big-gun talks, bit it’s still a sizable room.

In this room, shows will pack the floor.  Shows scheduled to be represented vary across the spectrum.  Those TV series and their stars expected to be presented are Burn Notice, White Collar, Psych, Dexter, Stargate Universe, Caprica, Bones, True Blood, Chuck, Fringe, The Vampire Diaries, Smallville, Supernatural, Glee and the Buffy Musical show.  Not to mention The Joss Whedon Experience!

So check it out below!
