series renewal

Spartacus Vengeance

Starz announced today that they have ordered a series renewal for the Spartacus franchise TV series for a third season.  This, before the 2nd season even gets under way!  Wow, that’s fast.

Spartacus: Vengeance is the second season of the series, whose season premiere is set to air come Friday, January 27, 2012 at 10 PM.

And though they don’t have a full working title for the third season yet, they expect production to kick into gear starting sometime in early 2012.

'American Horror Story' logo

If you’re a fan of the FX fright fest called American Horror Story, you’re in a bit of luck there.  FX has renewed the series for a second season of haunted ghosts and haunting neighbors.

The second season of American Horror Story will be a 13-episode order.

The show has been growing in ratings to such a degree that it is apparently on track to become possibly the best ever rated first season for a cable series on FX.

But it’s also possible that the second season will not have the same cast.  Right now the series cast includes Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton.

THE WALKING DEAD season 2 on AMC

AMC has stepped up to the plate and renewed showrunner Glen Mazzara’s The Walking Dead for a third season.

The premiere and 2nd episode of the series have aired and the series is setting basic cable records from the AMC TV show.  The premiere raked in 7.3 million viewers.  And as far as I’m concerned, it gets a “so far, so good” from me.  So far.

FOX International also debuted The Walking Dead to over 10 million viewers in over 120 countries.  Which means that zombies are the international focus of fans around the world.

It’s unclear how many episodes the network will commit to yet for the 2012 TV season, but for fans, I’m sure it’s good news.

Of a curious note, the press release still annotates Frank Darabont as an executive producer.  And we all know he was booted from the series some time back in the summer.

TV Renewal News

If you had not heard by now, a few shows got their renewal notices.

First up, True Blood, starring Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, got itself a fifth season by HBO… with a 12-episode order.

Cinema Static Divider - TV News, Movie News & Various OpinionHot on the tail of Comcast dumping Eureka, Syfy renews the apparently cheaper to produce sci fi series, Warehouse 13 starring Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly.  And it’s for a 13-episode season.

Also, In Plain Sight, starring Mary McCormack, has been renewed by USA Network for an 8-episode fifth season.  But on the down side, this fifth season will be its last.

I’ve enjoyed this show and it will be a sad final season… but at least they can close the show out properly.

BTW, also USA renewed Suits.

Syfy Channel has renewed the ‘hidden camera’ series called Scare Tactics for its fifth season.  It found itself getting a 13 episode order and will premiere in the Spring of 2012.

Scare Tactics is a show about friends setting up friends with practical jokes.

The one thing I’d love to see is a change up in how they show the background set ups to the scenes.  It’s one thing to see them set up the target, but to have this little story developing outside the main scene as if it’s real has always been a bit distracting.

Also from what I can tell there are a lot of folks that aren’t too happy about the show’s renewal.  Me, I like practical jokes and intermittently enjoy the show.

For the fans of the show, if you’re wondering, the 2nd half of the present season, the fourth season, will return in October.

JUSTIFIED: Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens. CR: Mark Seliger/ FX

Hooya!  Though not a surprise to many, I am relieved to say that FX has announced that renewal of Justified for a third season.

Justified stars Timothy Olyphant, as the steely-eyed Waylan Givens, is a favorite in my household and on top of that, ratings have been good for the show.  They’ve especially noted that the Live Plus 7 (DVR) ratings jump nearly 60%.  This is a series I feel comfortable recommending to anyone interested.

The show averages four million viewers, but when adding the telecast replays, they’re seeing just over seven million viewers each week.

NCIS on CBS

I know that it was more or less a given, but CBS has renewed NCIS for its ninth season!  In the process, CBS signed up Mark Harmon for a two-year extension of his contract with the studio.  That’s what 20+ million viewers can do for a TV show.

As the president of CBS put it, it has “compelling stories and characters with intrigue and humor.”

According to EW.com, it’s being reported that signs point to ABC picking up Ghost Whisperer.

If indeed ABC does pick up Ghost Whisperer, would this possibly tie some kind of new record for a show, as to how many networks the same show has been on?

And if they do pick it up, where does it fit into the scheme of things on ABC’s new fall 2010 season schedule?
