Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon Moscow Photocall

Only Michael Bay Said He was Done With Transformers!

For the last few years we know that Michael Bay has said that he was only working on a trilogy of films for the Transformers movie franchise that he kicked back into the limelight.

For fans of the franchise, it was a bit a dreary piece of news that he would only make three movies.  He pulled the franchise out of the past and into mainframe CGI and 3D movies.  And despite hard-core movie critics having field days with the franchise, movie fans spoke volumes with their money.

Optimus Prime from 'Transformers 3'

Transformers: ($709M); Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen ($836M); Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon ($1.11B).  (Worldwide gross #’s)

And for Hasbro’s bucket of money, TF1 helped pull in over $400M in sales, TF2: $600M.  Transformers 3 has helped boost 3rd quarter profits to $171M so far.

'Transformers 3' Shockwave head shotThis is a spoiler-free movie review from Bruce Simmons of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, aka Transformers 3 or TF3.  This is a working man’s movie review where I don’t get special invites to sets or early screenings.  I go to the theater with you.  I experience it with you.

With that said…

This third installment of the Transformers film franchise was directed by Michael Bay and starred Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, Frances McDormand, Alan Tudyk, John Malkovich and a cadre of old and new faces in the rest of the cast.  It’s distributed by Paramount Pictures.

I watched it in 3D in XD large format at my local Century 20 movie theater.  It clocks in at 2 hours and 27 minutes, but it didn’t feel like it.

Initial Thoughts:

Transformers 3 was a well thought out Transformers story from both the human and robot sides of the movie.  It felt like the franchise had matured to this point in time. Points in the movie were pulled from the history of the franchise and expounded upon.  There was back-story to help present this movie and other details that didn’t seem to contradict anything from the previous two movies.  Plus, I think dads will love taking the kids to see the movie (I’ll explain later) and the spots of humor injected into the story-line are well placed and not over done. I think Kids will love it  .I think fans of the franchise will really enjoy it.

'Transformers 3' Optimus Prime in battle pose 01

I’ve been pondering just how good Transformers: Dark of the Moon (AKA Transformers 3) will be when it hits theaters this July 1st.  I knew that after TF2, which has its own form of highlights, Michael Bay took grief for, despite how well the movie performed at the box office.  He’s made some preliminary press-strikes saying he’s agreed with some of the critics and that he was going to make up for it with TF3.

I think between what Mr. Bay has said and folks firm belief’s that Transformers 3 will be better, the anticipation is showing.  The movie trailer for TF3 broke iTunes trailers records with 6 million early downloads.  But now, now we have some concrete proof that this latest film in the franchise could very well rock our movie-going worlds.

I’ve been collecting images and thought, hmm, delete them from the machine or post them first?  WTH!  Included today is the newest promo poster art for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, followed by a new Captain America promo image that came out either earlier this week or last week.  (This is what happens with a one-man show… I get swamped and things get neglected.)  And finally, some images from the latest clip of Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides!

First up, is Optimus Prime, posed for some butt kicking as he stands over Shia LaBouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, guns and hot blade primed and ready to defend them.  Shia looks worried.  Does he realize this is his last TF movie?  Is he worried he will forever be identified as Sam Witwicky?:

'Transformers 3' new promo poster 4-29-11This came out at Yahoo.  I’m guessing Paramount Pictures is giving Yahoo Movies some love after Apple Trailers had the new movie trailer come out yesterday.  I caught that this was out there via the ever-informative website called /Film.

Transformers 3 - TF3 logo

Cinema Static may not chase its own tail on every casting bit that floats out of the news making mechanism, but I am having fun with the preview promo pics that Paramount Pictures is releasing in conjunction with Transformers 3, Dark of the Moon, in relation with the latest new movie trailer coming out later today.

In this just released image, we see Sam (Shia LaBeouf) and Seymour Simmons (John Turturro) on a dock, I believe.  And I can’t wait to find out how Simmons got himself into a wheelchair!

If you’re interested in hearing the new love interest for Shia in Transformers 3, I’ve included a 4-minute interview bite with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

I love the one question, if Rosie has learned anything about her predecessor’s clash with the filmmaker. LOL.

Transformers 3 (Aka Transformers: Dark of the Moon), from director Michael Bay, stars Shia LaBeouf once again in this third chapter of the giant robot alien franchise and is coming out in theaters on July 1st, 2011.

TRANSFORMERS 3 Promo Image with Shia LaBeouf

In case you had not heard the news, Michael Bay finally got to hire Leonard Nimoy and he did so that Nimoy could voice the role of the ancient Autobot Sentinel Prime in Transformers 3. That’s the golden faced ‘bot we saw inside the crash-landed Ark in that first teaser trailer that came out many moons ago.

I think his voice would be perfect for an older and I presume wiser Autobot.

On the movie, Michael Bay says Transformers 3 characters will have more soul, as he’s been able to focus on a better story this time around, versus T2 when the project got rushed as it was affected by that cursed writer’s strike.
