Many are looking forward to this fantasy TV series Smallville episode for many months, and rightfully so. It has a lot of heroes and it’s written by Geoff Johns. In theory, it should be pretty kick-ass. (It was!)

In what feels to be one of the best Smallville episodes ever… we received a serious dose of DC Comics mythology and it was awesome, even if it was on the small screen.
The ensuing movie introduces us to many names from the DC Comics world. Wesley Dodds (Sandman), Al Pratt (The Atom, referenced), Ted Grant (Wildcat, referenced), Abigail Hunkel (The Red Tornado, referenced), Carter Hall (Hawkman), Kent Nelson (Dr. Fate), Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl), Alan Scott (Green Lantern, referenced) and more that I missed.
It was awesome, even if Sandman & Hawkman are getting up there in the years.
After this movie event, I am not sure how Smallville will keep up the pace. But enough about my worries. There was some fun, some futures told and some info alluded to on everyone’s favorite bad guy in the franchise, LEX LUTHOR!
Shall I get on with it?
There are SPOILERS for the time-shifted viewer to follow.
Smallville finally returned after these hokey midseason breaks that networks have been forcing on us.
From a business angle I get it. From a viewers angle, I lose momentum in a developing story. Smallville “Disciple” had some stories that suffered from the midseason (2 month?) break. I forget how long the dang break was.
Oliver Queen is still dealing with internal emotional issues and the relationship with Clark and Lois could have used some dialog rehash rather than an episode recap up front.
In this premiere, Oliver Queen’s tutor, instructor or whomever you want to call him, showed up to right what is perceived as a wrong.
The CW has released some new promo art for next Friday’s Smallville movie event, Absolute Justice. It’s looking like it’s going to be fun, though I’m holding my reservations for Michael Shanks playing Hawkman, but I’ll just wait and see. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Tom Welling as Clark Kent in SMALLVILLE on The CW.
Smallville: Absolute Justice is coming at us and before you know it, it will be here.
A Canadian trailer shows us a lot more than the American YouTube versions, so here ya go…
We have it all in this preview of the Smallville movie… Dr. Fate, Hawkman, J’ohn J’onzz (Martain Manhunter) and is that a classic Green Lantern hand we get a sneak peek at? This movie can be the end all of Superman movies… if done right. Then again, it’s not Superman, it’s the fantasy television series Smallville. Ug, that legal distinction just sucks and it’s not something that studio can do anything about while certain entities retain different rights.
Don’t be confused by the air date in the webclip! In Canada it will be airing on a Sunday.
Here’s one of the first clips:

Here in the United States, the Smallville: Absolute Justice movie will be airing on Friday, February 5th, 2010.
We’re all looking forward to the return of Smallville. Things are looking pretty intense and a lot of exciting things coming up in the next few weeks!
Here are some snapshots from the promo, including the Smallville teaser trailer… but what the heck is that look they’ve given Lois? Is that Lois?
NOTE: There will be a George Clooney helmed telethon to raise funds for a relief fund for the Haiti earthquake on the 22nd. Supposedly across all networks. Not sure how this impacts the schedule of this episode, or if this was THAT episode and the movie comes afterward.
The television movie called Smallville: Absolute Justice will be airing on February 5th, 2009. People, well, more specifically fans of the franchise are waiting with the utmost patience. If you can’t wait much longer, you might want to take a look at the following official images of Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Doctor Fate (Brent Stait) and Stargirl (Britt Irvin) from the Smallville episode.
