The Fox reality TV dancing series, So You Think You Can Dance, will have a slightly different format this year, it’s ninth season on the network. After the break, are audition dates for the ninth season.
This year, Fox renewed the series, but with a twist… No results show.
With no results show for So You Think You Can Dance, that means that Nigel Lythgoe, the co-creator and exec producer of SYTYCD, will need to reformat the show to accomodate the new one-day format.
Word on the street was that the first season of SYTYCD was a single-night event, so it can be done.
Plus, even though it could be entertaining, sometimes it just felt like a drawn out time-killer. I did a lot of FF’ing when I watched my DVR’s 2nd episode each week.
And sometimes, the musical or dance guests were interesting. But more often than not, I only tuned in to catch the results.
So one night a week telecast schedule seems fine by me.
The latest TV news for TV Show renewals has been a bit busy over the last week as news on the street was circulating with threatening titles that looked like The Simpsons was possibly getting canceled, or huge pay cuts were on the horizon for the popular animated Fox TV show.
First up: The Simpsons has been renewed for two more years, giving them a 24th and 25th season. This new contract will also include their 500th episode.
The news started up as we all heard about the woes between the cast of The Simpsons and Fox. Basically, Fox ran up against the financial wall and had to make some decisions.
Then we heard about the ultimatum Fox delivered about cutting salaries.
Rumors of the renewal included the idea that the cast may have taken a potential 45% pay cut and get no residuals. Nothing has been confirmed but being that the cast already had back-end profit deals, not taking a new deal isn’t huge.

Admittedly, taking a pay cut is a refreshing thing to see, and it’s a confusing… conundrum.
Last nights episode of So You Think You Can Dance saw the pairings of our dance contestants split up and now, each contestant/dancer was partnering up with SYTYCD alumni or professional.
Also if you didn’t catch it on the episode, they made note of their derth of Emmy nominations, including one for Cat Deely as the show’s host. The show netted several Emmy nods for their dance choreography pieces, which is well deserved if you watch the show for the art of it all.
Last night was a uniquely different episode.
With Neil Patrick Harris guest judging, the reviews were of a different nature. Always finding the best of the performance and the choreographers work, it was a nice change of pace.
The inaugural Reality Rocks Expo is to reality TV like Comic-Con is to its fantasy/comic/sci fi genre entertainment segment. If you’re a huge reality TV fan, I’m going to go out on a limb and say you just might love this event.
Folks appearing at the expo include guests like Nick Cannon, Adrianne Curry, Christopher Knight, DeAnna Pappas, Audrina Patridge, Eric Roberts, Karina Smirnoff, and more, from some of your favorite reality TV experiences like American Idol, Project Runway, The Real World, Survivor, The Amazing Race, and other like-shows.
You’ll get previews of new shows, meet & greets, panels and the like.
But more importantly, past dancers from the Fox series, So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD), will be making an appearance at the Reality Rocks Expo that’s taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center April 9th & 10th.
Press Bit from Fox on the SYTYCD stars appearance:
For the second time, Mia Michaels is leaving So You Think You Can Dance. Some think Mary Murphy will return to fill the void. Which explains why we never saw her last season. It seems she was effectively replaced but it was never announced as such. With the portent of Mary Murphy returning, the details of her not being on the show seems to have come to the surface!
For now Mia Michaels will focus on her docu-reality series on Bravo, where the show will follow Michaels as she “navigates through the world of professional dance,”
I think Mary Murphy returning will be a good mix for the show once again. Michaels just didn’t seem quite right this last time around, though I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Sunday night saw the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on NBC. In addition to a previously announced 74 categories on August 21st for programs and individual achievements, Sunday night’s telecast covered the 26 primary Emmy Awards categories. Amongst the winners Sunday night, we had a few basic network winners, cable TV network winners and pay cable TV winners. Meaning like HBO & Showtime.
I know you don’t have a ton of time on your hands, so cutting right to the chase, here’s the quick alphabetical list of winners, followed by what each show won. That list is followed by a ‘total tally’ of awards won by all show, and my final section, not alphabetized, is winners, by category. (Something of a bit more detailed of award, who, show.:
Breaking Bad,
Dexter,
Glee,
Mad Men,
Modern Family,
Nurse Jackie,
Temple Grandin (HBO movie), [See Cinema Static's very own Tim Miller's review of Temple Grandin]

For a moment I thought that “Dinner for Schmucks” was going to topple “Inception” as it seemed to be going strong for early estimates for Friday and Saturday, but in the end, Christopher Nolan’s mind bender still took the top spot for the weekend.

Middle Men
-
“Middle Men” stars Terry Crews, Stacey Alysson, Luke Wilson, Laura Ramsey, Giovanni Ribisi, James Caan, Diane Sorrentino et. al..
It chronicles Jack Harris, one of the pioneers of internet commerce, as he wrestles with his morals and struggles not to drown in a sea of conmen, mobsters, drug addicts, and pornstars.
It’s written and directed by George Gallo (“Bad Boys,” “Bad Boys II”)
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Host Cat Deeley (C) and the returning All-Star Dance Partners
So You Think You Can Dance is tough on contestants. During practice Alex Wong was injured and it turns out it was his achilles tendon that he shredded and due to the injury, has left the show.
It really sucks for Alex and his fans. This is his second year at going for the show. Last year, his employer would not let him out of his contract to compete on So You Think You Can Dance. Now this year, it’s a lacerated Achilles tendon.
It’s a simple enough fix, but the recuperation time required is an estimated 3 months. Frack me. I feel bad for Alex.
Alongside Alex, the other 2 dancers that were in the bottom 3 were Ashley & Billy. I have to wonder if the trend was going to continue where the ladies are going home first?
On the Wednesday performance episode of So You Think You Can Dance, I thought most of the performances were fine, but for me a few stood out from the rest.
Billy Bell (R) performs a Krump routine with All-Star partner Comfort Fedoke (L) choreographed by Lil C
Cristina Santana did a great job. Alex translated the Fossey style number fine & Ashley seemed to tackle her task well. I thought Billy translated well to Krumping, and I really enjoyed Jose’s Bollywood number. But the cake was taken by Kent in his leather outfit in his routine!
Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance finally announced their top-10 for season 7. This year it’s different for the reality TV dance series. It used to be 10 guys and 10 gals. But this year it’s only 5 guys and 5 gals. The 10 of them will be paired with professional dancers, past contestants, when competing for that final winning spot at season’s end.
