Last week, TV Ratings for shows from Wed to Fri 11-17 to 11-19 saw The Mentalist dominate the latter part of the week, with Criminal Minds and CSI right on its tail.
On the cable side of things, iCarly crushed the TV ratings competition and Burn Notice pulled in 3.5M. Syfy Channel’s WWE Smackdown was a top contender with 2.5M and Sanctuary raked in 1.3M viewers.
The numbers, sans sporting events, are below, listed by show / millions of viewers:
TV Ratings for Wed to Friday last week (11-10 to 11-12) saw The CMA Awards conquering the broadcast TV side of things for these nights followed by The Mentalist, The Big Bang Theory & CSI. It is refreshing to see no reality TV in the top spots… unless you consider The CMA Awards reality TV-like!
Fringe pulled in almost 5M viewers and The CW is still running well with the TV ratings for The Vampire Diaries and Smallville.
Grey’s Anatomy pulled in over 11M viewers, but seriously folks, I am so done with this Christina Yang story-line… are you?
The Vampire Diaries Recap-Lite
The Vampire Diaries saw the origins of Katherine recanted… She hails from the 1480′s and with vampire blood in her system, she killed herself to escape her doppelganger fate. Shrewd! But then again, we knew that!
Doppelganger blood can break the curse of either vampires or werewolves, condemning the other to their fate for eternity. So there’s a mad rush to snag Elena.
There are also a few new witches… I mean warlocks in town, Luca and his father. But keep an eye on them, they’re working with Elija who ended up pulling the stake out of his own heart. (Note to self: Do not leave staked vampire without chopping off the head!)

On the cable side of things SpongeBob SquarePants wiped the floor with the NFL Network while Burn Notice made a strong return with 4.3M viewers.
Last week’s TV Ratings from Wednesday (Nov 3) to Friday (Nov 5), the big winners on the broadcast side of things was Criminal Minds (14.6), The Mentalist (14.4) & CSI:NY (10.6). Each won their respective nights with viewers in the (millions). On the cable side of things, South Park (2.8), College football (3.6) & Suite Life on Deck (3.2) took their respective nights.
Brusimm’s faves outside the top-5: Fringe (4.8), Smallville (2.6), Supernatural (2.5), Star Wars: The Clone Wars (1.8) & Sanctuary (1.3). The Vampire Diaries did well for The CW, holding up with 3.6 m viewers. Impressive!
The Syfy Channel’s highest rated show in this list was WWE Smackdown, with 2.8 million viewers. Sym-bionic Titan on Cartoon Network drew in 1.9 M viewers. Despite the fascinating premise, Hollywood Treasure on Syfy almost broke a million viewers.
Last week on the broadcast networks Sunday Night Football dominated the charts with twenty-five million viewers, followed by Dancing with the Stars with just under 20 million viewers. In fact these two shows dominated the top four spots, followed by the World Series in the next three spots on the charts. Then finally, The Mentalist, a scripted drama showed up in the top-10, at eighth with 14 million viewers. It was an odd week with the huge sporting events that took place. Woo hoo, congrats to the SF Giants!
CSI, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods and a repeat of NCIS made the top-20 shows. I had 81 shows total in the broadcast list. Smallville almost made 3 million viewers, which is up from the previous week. Supernatural stayed with around with 2.5 million viewers from the week before.
At the bottom of the list is Life Unexpected… they’re not getting the numbers and The CW has decided against picking up the final 9 episodes of the series… so fans are only going to get 13 episodes this season and there’s no word on the potential for renewal yet… though the signs aren’t looking great.
On the cable side of things, Monday Night Football on ESPN trounced everything with just under 12 million viewers and election coverage netted spots two through four. After that, the premiere of The Walking Dead trounced any other scripted cable drama with just over 5 million viewers. Check out my review of The Walking Dead to see what I thought of it.
Sons of Anarchy landed the 12th spot & HBO’s Boardwalk Empire netted 21st. Stargate Universe barely drew in a million people this last week.
I had 116 shows in my cable list.
Below are the top-25 spots on each and some select series that BruSimm enjoys during the week.
TV ratings for the 7-day week starting on October 20th didn’t see any real huge surprises as DWTS, NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds and other Brusimm favorites that dominated the Nielsen TV ratings charts.
I think her name is Caprica, and she’s dead Jim!
The top TV broadcast of the week was Sunday Night Football, followed by CBS NFL Football! This week reality TV crawled up past scripted drama as Dancing with the Stars was the 3rd most watched show last week, even though NCIS had a 4 percent increase in viewers from the week before. (I am not tracking the % change in DWTS.)
CSI & Criminal Minds saw 3% more viewers and the huge viewer jump was with the Rocky Horror Glee episode which saw a 52% increase from the previous week’s repeat episode.
Blue Bloods & $#*! My Dad Says saw a 7% increase while Hawaii Five-0 had a 7% drop in viewers.
Other favorites that had good weeks was The Vampire Diaries which saw a huge 46% increase from the week before in viewers. While Supernatural’s story is getting pretty good in its sixth season, 15% fewer viewers got to enjoy it. Smallville’s final season episode last week saw a 23% drop in viewers.
(L-R) Michael Weatherly, Mark Harmon and Sean Murray in NCIS
This last week saw the scripted crime drama NCIS actually beat out all the reality TV shows execpt one, if you can call the NFL a reality program, though luckily, it’s a sport so we don’t need to label it that! NCIS had a small boost in viewership from the previous week…
The big jump in viewers was CSI, with an increase of almost 14% from the week before and CSI: Miami, heartily surviving Sunday night and having a 13% increase in viewers. Detroit 187 also saw a great increase in traffic, at around 12%.
Though I seem to like Law & Order: Los Angeles, almost 14% fewer viewers did.
Smallville did well for The CW with just over 3 M viewers, and a huge 27% increase in viewers, as Supernatural also pulled in over 23% more viewers than the previous Friday night airing.
Of the top 15 shows, 6 of them are on Sundays, while Thursday & Tues each have 3 slots in that top-15.
I used to track TV ratings for another organization and had let it by the wayside, but I thought I’d give it a swing and see what kind of list I could come up with because I was curious about a few shows that I watch… And with that, I compiled a list and sorted it from most popular on down. Wow, were there some surprises? Not really.
Sunday Night Football on CBS takes the cake for the week of Wednesday, October 6th to Tuesday, October 12th with almost 21 million viewers. (I’m not too focused on any specific demographic, just overall.) Behind football is the reality TV show, Dancing With The Stars, which barely eeked out NCIS as they both pulled in 19 million viewers. Later on down the list we have The Mentalist and Criminal Minds and such.
I’m a bit worried about CSI: Miami. Stuffed behind football, it’s going to be a tough sell on a “school night” if it’s going to get jostled around from tentatively unstable football times. Alex O’Loughlin’s medical drama, Three Rivers, never had a chance sitting behind football. But CSIM has a strong following already. Maybe it will do OK. As far as I’m concerned, anything with over 6 million viewers is doing OK. But the shows that I like are worrying me to some degree.
Fringe is sitting in the 60′s, sadly, it’s barely outperforming Chase. OMG, despite Fringe actually having a pretty interesting story line going on this season, it feels fresher then it did last season. Are we tired of X-Files-like shows? The Vampire Diaries, though sitting in the 70′s, is kicking butt for The CW amongst that network’s shows. Smallville, in it’s tenth season, pulled in more than 2 million viewers. But near the very bottom of the barrel of numbers, sits Stargate Universe and Caprica.
Despite over 300 new DVD & Blu-ray releases coming out this week for their September 28th sale, I had a tough time pulling out what I felt were good titles for my readers. Yet, as you may very well know, the most important title release this week, as far as brusimm.com is concerned, is the release of Iron Man 2! (Which is in transit as we speak!) As you go down the list of releases, having pulled out the best of the best, you might understand how sparse it is out there this week!

Welcome to Cinema Static’s DVD & Blu-ray report for March 16th, 2010. It’s the middle of the month and this could be the best week in DVD / Blu-rays for the month of March. Ninja Assassin, Astro Boy, and The Fourth Kind top the mainstream this week. Breaking Bad and Pulp Fiction top the list in TV and Blu-ray.
My pick this week in film is Ninja Assassin, the Wachowski ninja epic. These guys are always on their game and I can’t wait to see this one! (I missed it in theaters) Runner’s up go out to Wonderful World starring Matthew Broderick, and Armored, the Matt Dillon armored truck heist film that also stars Laurence Fishburne and Jean Reno.
If you’ve been patiently waiting for that snarky animated TV series to get its butt back in gear, wait no more… well, maybe just a bit more.
South Park’s new episodes for it’s upcoming 13th season is about to get underway on Wednesday, October 7th on Comedy Central.
In their season opener, they boys will be hiring professional ghost hunters to check some crap out and see what’s up with a house they’re worried about! The episode is called “Dead Celebrities”!

There’s a flashback to a 2006 episode from hell, really, hell, after the page break:
