I have a collection of press releases sitting in my inbox so I thought I’d share some of these items.

Sprint Extends Their Contract

First up, NASCAR and Sprint have extended their relationship with each other, through the year of 2016.  And that’s a good thing, considering how some sponsors aren’t fully committing to sponsorships within the sport.

So to Sprint, thank you for re-upping and remaining the entitlement partner to NASCAR.

Sprint Nextel has been the NASCAR title sponsor since February of 2004.

NASCAR’s Loopies

NASCAR has put together what they call The Loopies, or their fifth annual Best-Of-Loop Data from the 2011 season.  That’s right, the statistical look at some milestones in on-track performance.

And they added a new category that is funny and interesting, that has to do with Brad Keselowski.

But first some simple Loop stats:

“There were 131,989 green flag passes this season, the most since NASCAR started recording the stat in 2005. Though not Loop Data, there were also an average of 27.1 lead changes and 12.8 leaders per race, both Cup Series records.”

It’s been reported that NASCAR is cutting race win purses by 10% in 2010.  This is across the board in all three series.

Of course, it’s not NASCAR that pays purses, but tracks that pay purses and sanction fees to hold NASCAR races.

But I’m plum wondering how the NASCAR sponsor Sprint is doing?

I haven’t followed up on an earlier report I laid out there where I noted that our sport’s main sponsor, SPRINT, lost 545k customers, almost $500 million in a quarter or was cutting 2,500 positions from their workforce.

That’s what I’m pondering!

That’s that gang.  NB&P says seeya later!

NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase for the Cup 2009I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but our primary series NASCAR Cup sponsor, Sprint Nextel, posted a loss of $478 million in the 3rd quarter of 2009.

Sprint lost subscribers during the 3rd quarter that amounted to 545,000 customers.  Meanwhile Verizon and AT&T gained subscribers.

If I weren’t a NASCAR fan, I wouldn’t care.  After doing physical comparisons between cell carriers, I’ve been a Verizon customer.  They just have better coverage overall, as far as my experiences have gone.

As Sprint looks to tackle these problems, they’re cutting the fat.   And yet as I research this issue, I see this just didn’t happen overnight.

Sprint had to cut 6,000 jobs in January of ’09, which was looked to save $just over $1 billion.  This was a 14% force cut back then.

T-Mobile looking to buy SprintWinston, then NEXTEL, Now Sprint.  We the fans are trying to settle on a series name.  Can we please have a single title name for more than 5 years?

Right right, news on the street is that to avoid competition price wars, T-Mobile is looking at the idea of buying out Sprint Nextel.

It’s an odd market we live in where instead of continuing to lower prices to garner more customers, a company just buys out the competition.  Oh, wait – Microsoft does that all too often!
