If you’ve been watching HBO’s Game of Thrones, I’m betting that though Jason Momoa‘s script lines as Khal Drogo were limited, you probably enjoyed the terse-worded barbarian role.  (I loved the development of his little strong-willed wife, Daenerys!)

Jason Momoa as 'Conan the Barbarian'

True, I think fans might have enjoyed his Ronon Dex persona from Stargate Atlantis more, what with some a-kicking and vocabulary to boot, but Momoa fans will take what we can get.  Am I right?  Though for me, I think it’s a waste of  a resource to not have Jason have dialog.

But now that the first season of Game of Thrones is over, (Notice how smooth that was, not giving anything away for the DVR or DVD viewing fans?), where can fans get their Jason fix?

If you’re headed to Comic-Con, Jason Momoa will be on the Game of Thrones panel slated for July 21st.  He’ll be sharing the panel with David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.  That should be an incredibly popular panel!

This falls under if Stargate fans have the time:

Gateworld, the renown website that copiously tracks everything Stargate, has introduced an interesting idea for all Stargate fans to participate in a rewatching of all of the series.  This rewatch campaign will be starting with Stargate SG-1 and then working their way through Stargate Atlantis and then finish up your watching marathon with the recently ended Stargate Universe.

GateWorld wants to start this worldwide Stargate fan marathon to start on August 1st and crank out five episodes per week.  Regardless of if you watch one per day or five per weekend day.

What they want you to consider is that this is a “worldwide community event.”

What they ask of you and I is that on Twitter, use the hashtag #SGRewatch when you post about it.  They also asked that we post reviews of your favorite episodes on your blogs.  (Or you most hated episodes.)

They’ll also be starting discussion threads for each episode over on the site.  Remember, the goal is to rewatch all 354 episodes of Stargate together as a whole.

For many more details, go check out Gateworld.

'Stargate Universe' - the Stargate on Destiny

Jamil Walker Smith in SGU Stargate UniverseStargate Universe returns to the Syfy Channel from its mid-season break on Monday, March 7th, 2011.  Stargate Universe cast includes Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, David Blue, Alaina Huffman and Jamil Walker Smith who plays my near, all-time favorite character of Master Sgt. Ronald Greer.

I’m happy to see Stargate Universe return to Syfy, but the return marks a sad premiere as this premiere marks the last ten episodes of the series, ever.

I’m watching the Stargate Universe marathon on Syfy as I write this and I’m really going to miss the show.  The stories are intricately detailed and evolving as each episode forwards the story of the castaways stuck on the Destiny as they tackle their survival on the ship as they deal with it, each other and the challenges presented to them on the journey of the Destiny.

With Stargate Universe coming to a close at the end of the upcoming ten episodes starting to air on March 7th, this will mark the first time in what, 18 years, that Stargate will be off the air?

It will be missed. Many will be upset by what brought this circumstance about and others will just grit their teeth and bear the disappointment in the processes that helped bring this about.

In the meantime, some fans have chosen to pay homage in a constructive, best possible way by putting together an incredible fan-made music video with Diamond Eyes (by Shinedown).

It is a 6 minute video that shows an incredible eye-hand coordination at editing as they pull in many scenes from across the board from Stargate Universe, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, the DVD movies that just show some serious butt kicking.  I feel this is a must-see vid. It’s beautifully done! (Help the cause!  PLEASE SHARE THIS VID in any way, shape or form.)

Thanks to Cinema Static’s contributor, Tim, for the nudge! Folks, he rocks too.  He’s always nudging me with good stuff!

PS:  Check out Jaap VSW YouTube Channel.  There are other Stargate music vids there.

If you like the song in this video, here it is on Amazon (I just bought it): Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom]) [Single Version]

Impact on Syfy

Impact on the Syfy Channel is a four-hour event, a TV mini-series about the disaster of an asteroid headed to Earth, looming doom over our heads.  The story is written by Michael Vickerman (The Haunting of Sorority Row, The Lost Future*) and directed by Mike Rohl (Supernatural, Eureka, Smallville).  That’s a fairly decent creative team and for a Syfy Channel movie, has great detailed and plausible story development.

But.

Impact is heavily, I said HEAVILY character driven.  I say that because in the first 90 minutes we’ve had one itty-bitty hand-sized meteor hit the ground, a weird, unexplained electrical discharge around the world and funny events where at times things & people start floating into the air.  Other than that those scenes that account for about five minutes of film, we’ve been treated to the characters learning their soon-to-be wives are pregnant, a scientist whose wife is dead and has a grumpy father-in-law, and various other in-depth details about all the characters involved.  Every now and then we see a briefing from the scientists to the U.S. military.

Jason Momoa as Ronon Dex on Stargate Atlantis

In an on-the-set piece from EW, Jason Momoa tossed out a few bits on his part of the HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s book series, Game of Thrones.

In the interview article we read about the meticulous nature the production staff is applying to various aspects of the HBO series shoot of Game of Thrones.  But more importantly, to Jason Momoa fans, they also had a few words with him and I think a specific demographic of my readership will like this.

Jason Momoa Bits
-

First off, they’ve created a new language for the Dothraki chief, Khal Drogo.  (Momoa)  Of course, they say it is better than Klingon.  LOL.

As far as getting an eyeful of the ex-model, ex-wraith runner from Stargate Atlantis, Momoa states that his Genghis Khan-like character tends to lie naked in furs and Momoa feels like he spends more screen time being naked than he does talking.  (See, I told you you’d like the news!)

Red: Werewolf Hunter TV Movie Review

-
The Syfy Channel Original Movie, Red: Werewolf Hunter, starred Felicia Day, who plays Virginia and Kavan Smith who plays her boyfriend.  She’s bringing him home to meet her family and their day jobs see them as both FBI agents.  Red, which is Virginia’s nickname, wants to tell him about her family business, that of being werewolf hunters, but the family says it must be a family decision to tell an outsider.  And yes, she’s a descendant of Little Red Riding Hood and this origins story is a wee bit different than the classic story we all know.

Red: Werewolf Hunter starring Felicia Day

Her family is played by Stephen McHattie, David Reale, and Greg Bryk.

Circumstances force their hand and they need to tell Nathan.  A bit later on, Nathan finds himself “bitten,” even though it was not a full moon.  Apparently they’ve found a way to turn at will.  Nathan wasn’t digesting the werewolf info too well until he had his own encounter.  Now he believes, but too late.

I like that werewolves burn up when they die… very vampire-like

The Destiny from Stargate Universe on Syfy

At the time of this article, we’re headed into the third episode of Stargate Universe, but later on in the season by the fifteenth episode the episode titled “Seizure” will air.  In “Seizure” we will have a crossover event that bridges Stargate Atlantis with Stargate Universe and it will be bringing back Dr. McKay (David Hewlett) and Mr. Woosley (Robert Picardo).

That will be nice but past guest appearances have felt hollow in the sense that the only interaction that the characters truly have are through the communication stones.  I mean great, if Rodney shows up on the Destiny, in the back of my mind in the reality of the story, he’s not really there.  Maybe I’m putting too much into it!  But I’m getting all huffed about about much to do about nuthin!  That’s because this cross-over episode mostly takes place in the Milky Way galaxy.  (That’s all I’m saying.)

Info Nuggets from Season 2 of SGU

-

Aside from the crossover episode, other news we have about SGU, per an interview with co-creator Brad Wright is that season 2 of Stargate Universe will be answering a lot of questions.  One of the big questions, being, why the ship was initially launched.  (Though to be honest, didn’t the showrunners already answer that in the series premiere pitches?  That there were a pair of ships launched to populate the cosmos with Stargates and another one to check them?)  Yet since the Destiny itself is not populating Stargates, there very well could be more to it than meets the sales pitch.

Syfy ChannelThe Syfy Channel unleashes Red: Werewolf Hunter & Monsterwolf!  October is the month of Halloween (technically) and what better network than the Syfy Channel with their huge inventory of Saturday Night flicks and new Saturday Original Movies can go nuts with scary monster movies?  OK, there are a few that go all out, but still, with enough popcorn and time, you have to admit the B-movie fare from Syfy can be entertaining!

With that said, the NBC owned Syfy Channel is coming at us with two Saturday Original movies for what they call a “howling good time.”

MONSTERWOLF -- Syfy Original Movie

The first movie of note is called Monsterwolf, premiering on Saturday, October 9th and stars Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe) and Jason London.  In Monsterwolf, an evil oil company disregards rules against drilling on tribal land and their own deeds unleash a nasty, protective animal spirit, called the Kachinawaya.
