Harvard researchers (My uncle was president of Harvard for some years) discovered that watching a specific number of hours a day increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and subsequently, premature death to boot.
They talked about the premise of turning off the television and getting more exercise because television watching can contribute to sedentary behaviors but hey, sure, it can be easy to “relax” and watch TV… but that can be remedied.
It’s too easy to get into that routine. I can attest to the premise from my first marriage that watching TV can contribute at least an additional 20 to 30 pounds. And if we’ve ever seen The Biggest Loser or other weight watching shows, we know what the extra pounds can do to the human body.
If you’re worried about the pounds and the health complications, then get out and walk or do a slow trot.

Zoinks, with all of our local schools laying off people left and right because somehow the monies are drying up for our nation’s future, at least our five big networks are faring OK. It’s been reported that they pulled in $9.5 billion in ad revenue for the upfront ad sale commitments.
Upfronts are the time of year when advertisers purchase their ad time for the upcoming season, at a discounted rate. Ads sales are available all year long, but this is the cheap time of year for ad sellers.
In the upcoming 2011-12 TV season, there are over 100 projects ordered for your consumption. The five networks noted are ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and The CW.
Yep, now The CW, a part of CBS, is being tossed into the news fray as one of the big five networks. That’s a great testament to perseverance with small but popular TV venues.
On ABC, there’s the Charlies Angels reboot.

NASCAR Logo - National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing
Next year NASCAR is headed to using E15 fuel in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. E15 fuel is a corn based fuel and it has reportedly generated more horsepower for teams that have tested it.
In the same article there was chat on what they can do to improve TV ratings of the sport. Of note, NASCAR Chairman Brian France said that the racing is great and that over time, that will take care of itself. When questioned on other factors like changes to the Chase, he declined to answer that.
Bruton Smith chimed in on fixing TV ratings and said he doesn’t believe that ratings are down 25%, but then added that he doesn’t feel that running at 1 p.m. is doing the sport any favors. With that, he meant being up against the biggest ratings catcher on weekend TV, football. Football is the dominant TV sport. He thinks starting at 2 p.m. might be the answer as people get tired of watching football after an hour of the sport is on TV.

On August 25th, a voluntary product recall went out for “Milestone AV Technologies Television Wall Mounts.” The recall involves approximately 131,000 flat screen television wall mounts.
The recall has been precipitated bu the elbow joint of the wall mount arm not fitting together properly and when the consumer goes to adjust the item, the TV could tilt or fall off the wall.
The product is manufactured by Milestone AV Technologies LLC, of Savage, Minn. and though no injuries have been reported yet, there is cause for alarm.
“This recall involves the Sanus Vision Mount model LF228-B1 wall mounts and Simplicity model SLF2. The wall mounts were sold for flat screen televisions. The model numbers can be found on the UL sticker on the wall plate.”

Or at least one of the most humorous scenes from Joss Whedon’s short-lived Firefly. (**** U Fox) Sorry, That happens when I think how screwed up the episodes got treated by the boneheads of that time at Fox. Anyway, can you imagine what horror upon horrors it would take to actually scare River Tam (Summer Glau) like this?

At the end of The Bachelor: After The Final Rose, Chris Harrison announced the next Bachelorette on the dating roulette show, The Bachelorette, and it’s Ali Fedotowsky.
Apparently she’s recovered from the devastating quandary she was in when she had to leave Jake for her marketing job at Facebook and apparently she either did get fired from that job that she loved so dearly; quit; or took yet more personal time from the career that she seemed so focused on that forced her to leave Jake.
I’m a little confused and though they focused on Ali not making that kind of mistake again, (Picking career over love) they never touched on her job status in After the Final Rose.
Regardless, the call of “dating under the lights of ABC” and its potential new career directions (See Melissa Rycroft, DeAnna Pappas) won out and Ali will be back.
