The 2011 Annual Screen Actors Guild awards

The 17th Annual (2011) Screen Actors Guild awards ceremony has come and gone…   After watching, for me there were no real surprises.  If you’ve seen Temple Grandin, Claire Danes win was no surprise.  If you’ve seen The Fighter, Christian Bale or Melissa Leo‘s win was no surprise at all.  Or if you were like me, and watch Boardwalk Empire on HBO, again no surprises there.  All these and the other winners deserve the wins tonight.

16th Annual Critics Choice Awards

-

The 16th Annual Critics Choice Awards came off without a hitch and we have the list of winners (and some losers) from the evening’s events.  Among the winners, with no surprises, Inception took six categories while The Social Network four, The Fighter won in three categories and The King’s Speech landed two trophies.

127 Hours won the Best Song category.  I’m glad it won something and deserves much more than that, but the film was up against some serious momentum that that other movies brought to the box office.

Black Swan, if anything, wins for the most nominations with 12, Inception 11, The King’s Speech and True Grit both had 10 nominations.  127 Hours nabbed 8 nominations.

Check out the list of winners below the page break:

Temple Grandin movie poster, with Clair Danes

This is the second movie review of the HBO movie Temple Grandin on Brusimm.com.  As unusual as it may seem, though Tim wrote a great piece about the movie, I just saw it and could not in good faith not say something.  It was that moving, plus I’ve written this so this second piece complements Tim’s and thus, they go hand-in-hand.

Claire Danes in Temple Grandin

Temple Grandin is a moving drama about the woman herself, Temple Grandin, played exquisitely by Claire Danes.  Ms. Grandin is autistic and we follow her from youth to her adult life as she struggles with her condition of Autism.  But it’s not the Autism itself she struggles with, but the people around her who don’t understand her.

Claire Danes as Temple Grandin

Claire Danes as Temple Grandin

The HBO drama Temple Grandin, based on the life of Dr. Temple Grandin and her books “Emergence” and “Thinking in Pictures” has set the bar for motion pictures made for television. Just like HBO’s 2010 Golden Globe and 2009 Emmy winner Grey Gardens, it is sure to grab a nomination if not the win.

Claire Danes‘ portrayal of Temple Grandin was sensitive and inspiring. She didn’t make one false step. I have seen the documentary and heard the interviews of the real Dr. Temple Grandin and Claire Danes captured her character perfectly. You quickly identify with her and join her struggle to overcome the barriers caused by her autism and later her gender in a male dominated profession.
