Cinema Static Movie News and Thoughts 200wWell, it’s a new year and the perfect excuse for everyone to compile their lists of likes, dislikes and what not, whether it be from 2011 or looking forward into 2012.

Let’s take a peek at 2012, shall we?

New movies that we’re looking forward to in 2012 include:

- The Hunger Games 3/12
- The Cabin in the Woods 4/12
- The Avengers 5/12
- The Dark Knight Rises 7/12
- The Amazing Spider-Man 7/12
- The Bourne Legacy 8/12
- G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation 8/12
- The Expendables 2 10/12
- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 12/12
- Django Unchained 12/12

That’s my short list of movies, that if push comes to shove, are the movies I will be catching in the movie theater.  With that said, let’s look at a bit of a lengthier list… shall we?

Coming out January 20th is Underworld: Awakening.  I love this franchise, but you haven’t seen much coverage for this new chapter of the franchise because of a  C&D request the studio sent me, that I’m over-reacting to.  So I haven’t said much on the movie since then.

Katniss and Peeta character sheets from THE HUNGER GAMES

The Hunger Games (3/23/11), directed by Gary Ross and starring Jennifer Lawrence, this movie is what I’m looking forward to.  The books were rather compelling.  This first chapter that comes out in this movie will be (I’m hoping) incredible.  It seems such so far.  I’m not sure how they’re going to sell the 2nd movie, if this one does well enough.  But only because there’s more of the same, so to speak.  And four movies, three books?  I presume they’re going to draw out the last book and make part 1 and part 2, like a few other movie franchises have done.

Of late, though I’m confused a bit about this newest movie still released by the studio.  There was much bru-ha-ha about it, but it was only a still from the movie trailer that was already released.

Not sure what that was about, but everyone loved having something to say or add to their collection of The Hunger Games posts.

-

Wrath of the Titans (3/30/12), directed by Jonathan Liebesman and starring Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Sam Worthington, all reprising their roles.

If I’m not too busy or what not, I’ll probably check out Wrath of the Titans, which is the sequel to the remake of Clash of the TitansClash was fun, but nothing to write home about.  It had incredibly exciting movie trailers that built a lot of excitement, but the trailers, as they were designed, seemed more thrilling than the movie was.

But I’ll probably catch this at the movie theater.

-

Joss Whedon has a few movies coming out this year.

Whedon announced his Much Ado About Nothing, but not sure when that’s coming out in 2012.

His much delayed twist on the horror thriller, The Cabin in the Woods, is coming out on Friday, April 13th.

Cinema Static Box Office Numbers - Top-10 MoviesIf you’re wondering about the top-10 movies at the box office:  Twilight: Breaking Dawn pt 1 put the bite on The Muppets, Arthur Christmas and Hugo!

As expected, despite some huge family anticipated favorites coming out for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Pt 1), maintained its grip on the top spot of the box office tallies beating out the three new movies that were hoping for that coveted number 1 spot.

Now unlike much of the media, I’m not going to spend time comparing this to that and that to this… meaning how well Breaking Dawn is doing versus New Moon, etc.  Or how this year, the Thanksgiving movies fared against last years’ and so forth.

Nah, I’m just looking at this weekend, now.  In the time frame we’re living this moment.  With that said,

These are all industry estimates

Twilight: Breaking Dawn pt 1, will be raking in $42M for Robert Pattinson, Kirsten Stewart and Taylor Lautner, bringing the movie gross tally to a whopping $221M take at the box office.  (I hope they’re saving their money from this windfall!)

The best performing new movie that came out this weekend that tried competing with the love of vampires and werewolves, was The Muppets, who will probably pull in just under $30M.

Happy Feet Two retained a top-five spot, cranking in just over $13M, and staying ahead of the next new movie, Arthur Christmas.  Arthur mustered up just under $13M in holiday money.

For certain things, I’m pretty lucky to be a fan of both sci-fi movies and NASCAR. In this case, something was triggered in my brain!

Tony Stewart 2011 NASCAR Champion

The other night my family came by for Thanksgiving and we popped in Transformers: Dark of the Moon in for the kids.  And just last week, Tony Stewart won the 2011 Sprint Cup championship.  And I’m wondering if Michael Bay wasn’t some kind of lucky charm for Tony Stewart?  you’re probably wondering exactly how the heck I just connected the two?

Check it out:

Brusimm Cinema Static TV NewsThis upcoming 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we have a few things going on around the house, much like I suspect you do.  If you’re going to be taking it easy and just hanging out around your home, whether it’s quietly stashed away, or with loved ones, your TV is going to be staring at you… calling your name, saying ‘watch me,’ I have all kinds of TV series marathons or movie marathons going on.

I see The Walking Dead, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Battlestar Galactica, NCIS, & a Firefly* marathon…  (*If you get Science Channel)

So if you pick up that remote and fire it off at your TV, here are a few things coming up for the Thanksgiving weekend… a TV marathon or two, so to speak.

And folks…  to anyone coming by, whether you’re popping in once or a repeat offender (visitor) checking out this post, I want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who comes by and visits my tiny little corner of the web.

Happy Thanksgiving and bless all of you and yours…

Now, back to my regularly scheduled snark and stuff…

Syfy channel LogoThis coming Thanksgiving holiday (2011) the Syfy channel will be hitting up viewers with a James Bond movie marathon.  If you’re a James Bond kind of fan, I’m guessing that’s a good thing.

There will be fifteen Bond movies on Syfy, and you’ll get to see every single actor who has portrayed the romanticizing secret agent, from the venerable Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig, the latest Double-Oh Seven agent.

All this skullduggery and espionage of ’007′ starts airing on Syfy on Wednesday, November 23 with the midnight showing of You Only Live Twice.

Now if you’re a Sci Fi sort of fan and not a James Bond fan, not all hope is lost on this Thanksgiving weekend.

On Saturday, November 26 at 9PM (ET/PT), we will have presented to us the world premiere of the Saturday Original Movie Storm War!

New Movies at the Box Office from Cinema Static 2011 logo 475w lq

If you like planning your holiday outings, and part of those plans include going out to the movies, I thought I’d slap together a list of what new movies will be out in the month of November and what will be coming out for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.  Just in case you or your family get it in your minds you might want to hit up the movie theater during that time…

Thanksgiving is taking place on Thursday, November 24th.  (That’s a duh, but being thorough here!)  If you check out the new movies coming out in November, leading up to and may still be in theaters by Thanksgiving day.  You might find one of your favorite actor or a movie you knew was coming out soon.

You can also check back early each week as I produce a weekly piece pointing out all the new movies for that week.

From what I can tell, here’s what I think might be the top-10 movies coming out in November:

•      The Son of No One
•      J. Edgar
•      Immortals
•      The Descendants
•      The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1
•      Melancholia (Limited openings)
•      Happy Feet Two
•      Hugo
•      A Dangerous Method
•      The Muppets

Championship Gear

-

Ever wonder how a sport, right after it’s World Series, Super Bowl or NASCAR‘s Final Chase for the Cup, manages to have all the inventory on-hand when the identity of the victorious team becomes known?  It’s called banking your money and having product for all contingencies possible.  It isn’t cheap, I’m sure, at least if I had to pay for it, it seem such, but still.

In a curious little insider like bit of info, the article states that one hundred and seventy products were ordered for the checkered flag at Homestead.

The odds on favorite being Jimmie Johnson, NASCAR had seventy products sitting on the championship stage, fifty each for both Hamlin and Harvick.

As the race wore down to the final laps, with two to go, some poor staffer had to quietly shuffle-kick the boxes with Hamlin and Harvick off the stage while the box with the Jimmie Johnson memorabilia was cracked open.
