the man of steel

Superman by Deviant Art user Sean Izaakse

As we sit and ponder, OK, we aren’t pondering anymore.  Christopher Nolan has confirmed what everyone has been saying all along, he’s directing Batman 3.  But now we’re wondering about his directed vision of The Man of Steel, Superman.  What’s up with that?

For one, he said that they have a fantastic story to tell about the son of Krypton and they can do it right, being they’ve had the experience with the Batman franchise that has paid off.

Yet, what value is there for them, to reveal anything too early?  Nolan has said that from their in the past that they know how to approach a superhero movie.  Movies where their heroes exist in a world where they are the only heroes.  Keep the Man of Steel in the same light, is what he referred to as keeping the integrity of the character where each character serves the internal logic of the story they have to tell.

Christopher Noland and Aaron Eckhart on set of THE DARK KNIGHT

Batman 3 Movie Update

-

The latest update on the Batman 3 movie from Christopher Nolan seems a bit ominous on the outside, but really, it’s Nolan’s Batman franchise.

The updates for the third installment to the Batman 3 movie from Nolan are as follows:

  • Jonah Nolan (Christopher’s brother) finished a script draft.
  • He’s now working on the screenplay himself.
  • The movie has a release date set.
  • It’s not been officially greenlit yet.

If this were any other movie, I’d be mildly worried.  I still have reservations, but I’m not as worried as I would be about any unproven or struggling franchise.  Yet I have to wonder… where can you go after a huge success leaning on the events surrounding Heath Ledger and his incredible portrayal of the Joker.  The success of The Dark Knight I feel was totally based around him.

Yes, the Batman franchise is popular.  Batman Begins made $352 million Wordlwide.  The Dark Knight with Ledger made $1 billion Worldwide.  You know Warner Bros. is being smart about what exactly they should do in regards to the Batman franchise.  But… again…  Nolan backed.  He’s developed enough clout with the fans to make greenlighting this project a near no-brainer I would think.

Superman: The Man of Steel Movie Update

-

News on the newest Superman movie reboot project The Man of Steel that Christopher Nolan is helming & David Goyer wrote, Nolan is looking for a director now.  The names he’s looking at are:

  • Tony Scott (Man on Fire),
  • Matt Reeves (Let Me In),
  • Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles),
  • Duncan Jones (Moon), and
  • Zack Snyder (Watchmen).

Me…  Snyder, Reeves, Scott are my hopes, in that order.  A decision will be made within the next few weeks.

Keep in mind, they are on a deadline.  A huge legal deadline for Warner Bros. to get the movie made before 2013 or they lose the rights to the iconic superhero.  If it weren’t Christopher Nolan behind the project, I’d have written it off as yet another rush project with no substance.  Even if it’s still a reboot, I still feel like its a rushed, pumped out product.

It’s sad that it seems all we seem to be getting are repeated origin & reboot movies and all of them with Lex Luthor as the main bad guy.  If they studio keeps tossing out rehashes just to keep the rights then wtf?  What’s the point?  I know that I’m pretty tired of seeing a new face in a new movie that goes nowhere beyond the first (movie of that era) without it being continued in a 2nd movie.

Brandon Routh

I liked Brandon Routh in the role, but he had a crap project under him and never had a chance.  I mean seriously, in almost every scene all I saw were different representations of the first Christopher Reeves Superman movie.  The only thing that might have saved it was the twist of his having a love-child with Lane.

We’ll see what Christopher Nolan and David Goyer do with this newest, rushed version of The Man of Steel, Superman.
