Cheetara, Tigra and Lion-O in the new animated THUNDERCATS from Cartoon Network

I just pulled up and watched the first 3 episodes of Cartoon Network’s new and reimagined animated series, Thundercats.

All the same characters are there, Lion-O (Will Friedle), Cheetara (Emmanuelle Chriqui), Tygra (Matthew Mercer), Panthro (Kevin Michael Richardson) plus we have Grune who’s voiced by the ever popular Clancy Brown and for the premiere episode, we met Lion-O’s father, King Claudus, voiced by the original voice of Lion-O, Larry Kenny.

There’s also WilyKat and WilyKit plus there’s a voiceless Snarf. All he does is meow.

It’s an interesting, slightly new take on the franchise. In this new series, we see Lion-O become Lord of the Thundercats via tragedy and the downfall of the civilization that the cats have created on Thundera. Their downfall being at the hands of the lizards.

Below are some pieces of news or trailers from events at 2011 Comic Con… including panel bits from HBO’s Game of Thrones, Underworld: Awakening, Thundercats, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Comic-Con News from Cinema Static

Game of Thrones Comic Con News

At the Game of Thrones Panel, which had George R. R. Martin (moderating) and Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Jason Momoa, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau with show creators David Benioff & D.B Weiss.  The gang let it be known that in the upcoming season we’ll get to see the dragons grow up and more dire wolves this season.

It was noted that we probably won’t be seeing one book per season, as that won’t balance out from book to book.

The DVD package won’t have deleted scenes from the season 1 because they used everything.

A funny bit: There were a few good moments of levity, but one that I remembered, was a question tossed out to the panel, asking how they would end “A Song of Fire and Ice?”

Peter Dinklage suggested a dance number.

I’m sad I missed the Fright Night panel with director Craig Gillespie & actors Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and surprise guest moderator Chris Sarandon. Screenwriter Marti Noxon was also on the panel.

In this remake, it would seem that we’ll learn more about Jerry’s (the vampire) background… remember, he’s a predator.

Cinema Static on Brusimm logoEver wonder what stages some of your more anticipated movies are in? Me too. Like what’s up with The Expendables 2, or Ghostbusters 3 & The Wolverine. Has The Dark Knight Rises started filming yet, or what about Superman: Man of Steel?  And what’s up with that Alien prequel movie, Prometheus?  Plus, Cinema Static will touch on the movies that are close to finishing or are finished and looking at the homestretch prior to opening in the theaters!  And looking at the collection of cast, it definitely looks to be an exciting time for the Summer box office and movie-goers.

With that in mind, I thought I’d take a peek at what’s going on with different movies and their various states of being.

Movies in Development

Development is a tricky stage for a movie. That could be considered something that has a spec script but no one is biting or a project that actually has some legs under it. For instance, under the development list are such things as Warcraft, Super Troopers 2, World War Z (with J. Michael Straczynski noted as the writer), & Halo. It drives me crazy that Halo is kept alive in this list. Or that the ever-hopeful fan keeps updating a Thundercats movie entry. I think there’s a point in time you need to give it a rest. At the bottom of this article is the supposed test footage for a once hoped-for incarnation of a Thundercats movie, an animated version, from a few years back.  Or check out the preview of the upcoming ThunderCats animated series on Cartoon Network.

But here is the list of the more anticipated movies that are noted to be in development now:

  • The Expendables 2 (With all the old cast)
  • Ghostbusters 3 (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis)
  • The Wolverine (with Hugh Jackman… but right now in limbo with no director)
  • Star Trek Sequel
  • Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall
  • Kill Bill Vol 3
  • Avatar 2

WonderCon logo

Today I tagged the panels for Doctor Who, Terra Nova and the new animated series from Cartoon Network, ThunderCats.  I also have a new preview trailer for the ThunderCats show.

Day 3 at WonderCon 2011, the 3-day attendee’s are a bit tired. But there was a large crowd outside the Moscone Center South wanting in to buy their on-site tickets for Sunday. Those that were badged from previous days were entering the center, but awaiting for the convention floor doors themselves to be opened at 11 a.m..

WonderCon 2011 Crowd Wants in

As far as the first panel of the day, Doctor Who, the folks at the front of the line arrived there at 6 am to be sure they had a shot at the front row of the event. Lucky me, they sat next to me. (They were screamers. My ear is numb.)

Let’s get to it.

WonderCon logo- WonderCon is coming up fast, taking place April 1st through 3rd in San Francisco at the Moscone Center South.  Rooms are still available and at a reasonable price, all within an easy walk to the convention center.

As of this writing, the big events lined up for WonderCon that have caught my eye include panels for TV shows Falling Skies, Doctor Who, Terra Nova, Human Target and the new animated series ThunderCats.

Movies being represented at WonderCon (at the time of this writing*) include Warner Bros. live-action movie Green Lantern, Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens, HANNA, Priest, & Immortals.

*What’s interesting is the absence of a few highly anticipated movie panels…  mainly Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, Super 8, Conan the Barbarian, The Amazing Spider-Man… and such.  There are still spots on the calendar but with a week to go, it’s looking bleak for these projects showing up.  Yea, yea, I want it all!  What can I say.

I hope this lack of big-ticket upcoming events isn’t some sort of harbinger of this event’s future!  It’s a great event that’s not as much of a frenzy as San Diego Comic-Con, while still getting some great exposure for various projects.

Here are some of the primary events taking place in the Esplanade room of the weekend:

Cartoon Network logoSo what can we look forward to for some new upcoming animated series on Cartoon Network?  First, you must know that Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Generator Rex and Adventure Time are all returning next season…  with nineteen new original series in the pipe, ready to go alongside these veteran shows in the schedule.  First up…

Dragons and Looney Tunes!

If you liked the DreamWorks Animation film of How to Train Your Dragon, maybe a new weekly TV spinoff series based the movie will translate to some more fun on the small screen.  That project will be due out in 2012.

Then there’s a new take on everyone’s favorite Looney Tunes characters in what’s been referred to as a “Desperate Housewives/Odd Couple mashup.”  In this new series coming out in May, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are roommates while the rest of the gang are neighbors in a suburban cul-de-sac setting.  The rest of the gang includes Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner.

Superhero Action

If you like your animated superhero action, there are a few great series coming down the pipe also, that is if you like Thundercats, Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and the likes.

Thundercats 2011 Animated Series on Cartoon Network logoAny serious Thundercats fan knows what’s coming… the animated version from Cartoon Network.  Back on February 25th the ‘net premiered a trailer on TV teasing us with what looks an epic teaser trailer.  I am truly excited to see this reimagining of the story of Lion-O and the Thundercats.

The Thundercats animated series is coming to Cartoon Network sometime this year (2011) though I’ve seen no exact, official date yet.

The below promo trailer for Thundercats, Cartoon Network looks like a tube-capture.  I’m not fond of these, but I’m hungry for the animated series to kick it in gear.  When an official release to press comes out, I’ll be replacing this beast!  In the mean time, after watching the trailer, check out Cinema Static‘s about Thundercats.

We all know that a Thundercats animated series is coming to Cartoon Network.  We’ve shown some promo art and now we’re hearing about the toys!  Oh, the toys.  Toys seem to be the main method of learning details about different movies.  I’m not sure if it’s the plan or just poor timing on everyone’s part, but the fans and consumer make out.  That’s for sure.

With that in mind, Superhero Hype snagged some images of upcoming toys related to the new Thundercats series.

They have several, but I’m just going to show you a few here because I want you to go over to SHH to see the rest!

Here’s my favorite toy from the series, the Thunder Tank, with a 4-inch Snarf included.  (I guess you can run him over or have him be helpful.)  Too cool… I want one to go to work in!  Traffic is history!

Thundercats 2011 Animated Series on Cartoon Network logo

Since we’ve heard word that the Cartoon Network would be bringing an animated Thundercats to the small screen, this site has been pretty excited.  Now we have more reasons for our energetic enthusiasm.  Today (1-26-11) Warner Bros Animation released an official piece of promo art for the Thundercats Series.
