New Movies at the Box Office from Cinema Static 2011 logo 475w lq

This week the new movies coming out on Friday, October 28th include cast members such as Olivia Wilde (two releases this week), Johnny Galecki, Johnny Depp as a social drinker, Amber Heard, Rhys Ifans, Antonio Banderas (voice of), Jennifer Lawrence, Jason Statham , Hugo Weaving in something where he’s not beating someone up, Odette Yustman & Castle‘s Stana Katic!

If Paranormal Activity 3 is anything like it’s two older brothers, the theater drop off rate will probably either make room for Real Steel to come back to the top, or let one of these other newbie entries to take the number 1 spot.

After looking at the upcoming new releases, I think In Time will do well.  And don’t forget, I take suggestions as to what movie you guys want me to go see to review for you! (Please be nice!)

First up,

In Time

In Time is directed, written and produced by Andrew Niccol (Lord of War, The Truman Show & Gattaca). The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Matt Bomer, Johnny Galecki, Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer and Justin Timberlake.

The film summary says:

It’s the future and people stop aging at 25. Then they only live one extra year after that. But if you have the means, you can buy more time to live beyond that year. It’s this setting that we find Will Salas accused of murder and on the run with a hostage, who may have a connection with a way to beat the system.

Looking at the director/writer’s resume, I’m thinking this movie definitely won’t suck!

Robert Rodriguez's Predators 56260

Cinema Static Reviews Predators: Predators does not disapoint the franchise at all and I don’t think any fan of the franchise will be disappointed.  Check out my movie review below, and it’s with minimal, if any spoilers:
-

I too have been checking out the movie reviews of Predators and I went into the theater not too worried, but with just enough reservation to protect my fragile state of “Fan’s-Mind!”

First and foremost, Predators is a sequel and not a reboot. That is made clear to us and that made the experience that much better knowing they were extending the franchise and not restarting it. (I’m getting tired of reboots. Move the story on people!)  Second, I’ve seen reviews noting the gore in the movie.  I’m not a fan of gore, but the gore was done well.  The movie was finally given an “R” rating for “strong creature violence and gore, and pervasive language.”  OK, there is some language.  We do tend to cuss when under the gun… or shoulder blaster.  Sure, the creatures were causing the violence.  That’s expected.  But the gore, to me, wasn’t fountains of blood spurting gore, though there are moments!  I’d put it on par with the first Predator movie.  Maybe a tick more but not by much.

Opening Movies for this Friday

This week for opening movies, we finally get to see what I think are two fun, anticipated films for the summer. Robert Rodriguez’s Predators & Despicable Me. A quiet film that has been smothered by all the hype from these previous mentioned movies, is The Kids Are All Right.

Robert Rodriguezs Predators 56218

Do I even need to note the movie summary? Sure, what the heck: A group of elite warriors are hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators.

Predators stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, et al.

Directed by Nimrod Antal (Armored, Vacancy).

Predators - Infrared Vision

This 30 second TV spot for Robert Rodriguez’s Predators has a lot of the same from other online trailers we’ve seen.

But there is a super fast snippet of trailer at the 23 second mark where we see a pack of at least 4 of the “dogs” that Predators have, or as we’ve been affectionately calling, the Predator Pets.

Predators - 1st sneak peek

63% of all homes have pets. Predators would seem to be no exception!

The attached Predators featurette focus is on Edwin, played by Topher Grace. If you can’t imagine Topher Grace as a tough guy, watch this and tell me if his mannerisms don’t broadcast a totally different vibe of what you might have expected!

Yes, the Predator franchise is getting a reboot or redo of update called Predators.  Yes, everything is getting a reboot these days.

Why?  It’s all about the marketing.  They know the franchises that were popular with middle agers or pre-middle agers will get their attention and since it nailed their attention span back then, it may get the younger generations attention span again, too.  They’re nailing two demographics in one shot.  Basic marketing 101.

But enough about that noise.

First off Robert Rodriguez is producing this rehash of one of my all time favorite movie characters.  That’s fine.  I’ve never hated anything he’s done.

Then the news was that the writer snagged for the project was Alex Litvak.  Rodriguez is having him work over a spec script he (Rodriguez) wrote 15 years ago on the premise of Predator.

Later on I picked up on the noise that a 2nd screenplay writer came on board, a Michael Finch.
