true blood

Cinema Static, TV and Movie News and OpinionToday’s Cinema Static bite involves some Hawaii Five-0 observations and a TV news bite (no pun intended) for True Blood….

Hat Tip to Hawaii Five-0 Showrunners

In the Hawaii Five-0 episode titled “Lapa’au,” the team (Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, & Masi Oka) try to discover who killed an ICE agent and track down the smuggling ring she was pursuing.

The episode, which aired a few weeks ago, guest starred Greg Grunberg.

For any fans of the past show, Heroes, you know that Masi Oka, who plays Dr. Max Bergman, and Greg Grunberg, who played agent Morrison in this episode, were main characters on Heroes.

In a scene in the H50 episode, when the two characters meet in Dr. Bergman’s lab, Bergman looks at Morrison and stops, saying, “Have we met before?”

LOL…  they spent a few moments on the scene and I thought it was an awesome and funny moment when the two ex-cast from Heroes cross paths and the showrunners took advantage of the moment.

That was a Cinema Static Awesome TV moment.

BTW:  Grunberg is slated to show up in a Syfy movie in 2012, titled Mega Spider!  At least that’s the title right now.

The H50 scene above reminded me of another scene gem from a True Blood scene from early last season, when the vampires were holding a public meeting to sooth over the general populace about their intents… and there was this huge advertising banner at the vampire conference, 1-800-DENTIST.  Ya had to laugh at that one.

Speaking of True Blood….

Brusimm Cinema Static TV NewsThis is for the True Blood fan with lots of extra cash!  But if you DO have lots of cash, you can head on over to Ebay and bid on the opportunity to join the cast and crew of True Blood at their season 5 premiere party.

The premiere party date has not been set yet but the auction for the True Blood Season Premier Party VIP tickets is going strong right now, with 47 bids when I saw it last.  The going bid is up to $5100.  (See, that’s why I warned you!)

It’s being auctioned by the Ebay account ‘emmysfoundation’ and the item is a charitable listing where 100% of the proceeds will go to support the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation.

Since the bidding went over $2k, bidders have to prequalify.  I have close to 600 transactions on Ebay under my belt and this is not an unusual requirement.

Here’s some interesting TV news regarding Breaking In, True Blood and some Syfy channel premiere dates.

-

Breaking In

'Breaking In' on Fox, series finale

For fans of Breaking In, you may be very happy to hear that Fox is looking to order up 13 more episodes of the comedic break-in series.

These new episodes will be making their debut in the mid-season time frame, so keep your eyes peeled here for any new news when it does come up.

Oh yea, and the entire cast is coming back!

This is a great victory for the fans of the series.  It was odd how, despite the fanfare and ratings, it found itself dumped

TV Renewal News

If you had not heard by now, a few shows got their renewal notices.

First up, True Blood, starring Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, got itself a fifth season by HBO… with a 12-episode order.

Cinema Static Divider - TV News, Movie News & Various OpinionHot on the tail of Comcast dumping Eureka, Syfy renews the apparently cheaper to produce sci fi series, Warehouse 13 starring Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly.  And it’s for a 13-episode season.

Also, In Plain Sight, starring Mary McCormack, has been renewed by USA Network for an 8-episode fifth season.  But on the down side, this fifth season will be its last.

I’ve enjoyed this show and it will be a sad final season… but at least they can close the show out properly.

BTW, also USA renewed Suits.

True Blood

True Blood delivered a ton of developments this week for this snarky episode recap.

SPOILERS if you haven’t seen the episode “Spellbound” yet, that aired Aug 14th on HBO.

Tara continues to be siding with the witch, Marnie.  Eric and Sookie had a very unique experience together and then Eric found himself under a trance from that wicked witch.

Sam’s brother, is, well, doing what he knows.  And is digging it deeper than ever for himself.

Below are my Comic Con panel terse recaps for Torchwood, Eureka, Warehouse 13 & True Blood.

"Comic Con" News

-

Torchwood

In the Torchwood panel at Comic Con, the panel consisted of John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman, Alexa Havins and writer Jane Espenson.

The panel had a bunch of levity and was a nice experience of laughter. But to look at the specific points made in the panel about the show:

Espenson said things will be getting darker as the Torchwood: Miracle Day progresses.

Espenson wants the fans to really embrace the theme of this season and look at the bigger picture of the effects from Miracle Day.

No word on renewal yet.

Eureka

The Comic Con Eureka panel guests included cast members Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Neil Grayston and Felicia Day. Also on-panle were executive producers Jamie Paglia and Bruce Miller. The panel was moderated by Wil Wheaton.

They chatted about Eureka‘s new space program, a love triangle and the animated Christmas special coming up.

Here, they chatted about things like how Day found it easy to fit into the cast.

Salli Richardson-Whitfield will be directing the episode titled “Omega Girls.”

And this year’s Christmas episode will be an animated ‘sode, with multiple styles of animation.

Other than that, it was just a fun experience…especially when the entire audience sang happy birthday to Colin Ferguson. (Yes, they said it was his birthday.)

Oh, on that love-triangle? There will be some tension between Dr. Holly Martin (Day), Dr. Parrish (Wheaton) and Fargo (Grayston).

Last week HBO’s True Blood premiered and the premiere took the time to spend a few moments with every major character to bring us up to speed, since there’s been a certain amount of time that’s lapsed since the season 3 finale.  And wow, were there some interesting developments!

-

"True Blood" HBO Promo Art RED

In the fourth season premiere of True Blood, we watched Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) development as she spends a few moments in the land of fairies and to find out that she’s been missing from Bon Temps for an entire year.  Many things happened since that year passed by.  And for True Blood, that is a huge time-shift, considering that seasons 1 through 3 covered only a few weeks period of time.

The other important aspect with this huge time-shift is that it allowed the creative forces behind the show to develop characters in this leap ahead and give us new material and content for us to absorb.  It broke the stagnate old stories and will now be bringing us new stuff to look forward to and learn about.
