MM9 is from VIZ Media/Haikasoru… and written by Hiroshi Yamamoto, translated by Nathan Collins.

The book is rated “T” for Teen, but I have to say, teen rated or not, this was a fun and entertaining read.  But I’m a bit biased on the genre covered by the publication.

MM9 Book Review

MM9 is a book for the giant monster fan in all of us.  We are taken to a world where giant monsters exist and are are treated like weather phenomenon or earthquakes.

This is a world that reminds me very much of what I anticipate will be like Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming movie, Pacific Rim, that has to do with giant monsters and how humanity deals with them.

But MM9 is different and is a fun read.

In MM9, the world is populated by monsters of different shapes and sizes and an organization is set up to discover and deal with them.  The monsters can range from plant size to, well, monster-sized big!

The monsters are tracked by the staff in the Meteorological Agency, Monsterological Measures Department (MMD), an anti-monster squad.  And they call their monsters kaiju.  When the MMD discovers a monster, they rank it, depending on a combination of destructive potential and size.  The monster scale ranges from up to MM9… Monster Magnitude 9.  This is the biggest and baddest of the monsters.

The story or set of stories takes us through a few cases with the MMD, ranging from a simple but fascinating sea monster to one big daddy of a monster that threatens the very fabric of humanity.

"Comic Con" News logo

Comic Con released their 2011 schedule for Friday, July 22.  If you’re headed to the event, you can also hit up the Comic Con website for all the information you could use.

Below I’ve added the “cliff Notes”-like version of some of the more popular events taking place at the 2011 Comic Con event taking place in San Diego this year.  Friday is definitely looking up and you can see at a glance, what’s taking place in Hall H and Ballroom 20, with select other events noted later.

Movies showing up on Friday include The Adventures of Tin-Tin, Raven, Haywire, Underworld 4, Fright Night, Ghost Rider – Spirit of Vengeance, Total Recall, The Amazing Spider-Man, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Pacific Rim, and a few more.

TV Shows being represented in panels and previews include Torchwood: Miracle Day, The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Eureka, Warehouse 13, True Blood, Thundercats, Locke & Key, The Nine Lives of Chloe King, The River, Falling Skies (which got renewed for a 2nd season recently), Spartacus: Vengeance, and Alphas.

And stay focuse RiffTrax fans…  there will be a 1 hour RiffTrax Live of a short film!  They’re still at the top of their game, so don’t miss out!

This is not the complete listing, just what I thought my readers are interested in and the list is broken up into 2 sections!  The big rooms first, and then a slightly more comprehensive but not complete listing of events for Friday.  (You might notice that Legendary Pictures will not be in either huge room.  They’re in the second listing section.)
