Brusimm Cinema Static Movie NewsThis piece is a quick chat on Christian Bale hanging up his bat-cowl, and some thoughts on the upcoming Batman reboot and Justice League movie from Warner Bros..

-

Christian Bale has confirmed in an interview in “The Philippine Daily Enquirer” that this third Batman film from Christopher Nolan, will be his final take on the Bruce Wayne character, or his alter-ego, Batman.

It makes sense, considering that Christopher Nolan has always said his vision of Batman was a three-film deal, that Christian Bale will also be pulling back from the role.  It’s been a wonderful combo of talent that has brought the light of this comic book hero to life, and this particular combo is coming to a close when The Dark Knight Rises hits movie theaters in July of 2012.

Justice League Movie and Batman Reboot

And I think it’s also a good idea the Bale send this message to Warner Bros., considering that Warner Bros. is looking to move forward with what I consider to be a hair-brained idea of rebooting the Batman movie franchise after Nolan’s third chapter.

New Movies at the movie theater from Cinema Static 2011 logo 475w lq

We have funny bomber movies, the dreadful dodging of death and some musical inclinations. After the list of new movies, I also have a production status list of some select movies.  Check it out:

-

30 Minutes or Less

Jesse Eisenberg & Danny McBride star in this comedy about “Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb to his chest, and inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank or else!

It’s directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and is produced by Media Rights Capital and distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Final Destination 5

Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Miles Fisher, Ellen Wroe… oh, who cares. They’re all going to die! In this rendition of the franchise, “Survivors of a suspension-bridge collapse learn there’s no way you can cheat Death.

It’s directed by Steven Quale (Avatar [2nd unit], Aliens of the Deep) in a movie produced by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.  (Eww, eye surgery already creeps me out.)

Man of Steel movie news – Henry Cavill First Look

It’s spreading like wildfire as a select number of sites received their first promotional image from Warner Bros. Pictures of Henry Cavill in the iconic red and blue suit of Superman, from the Zack Snyder helmed film, Man of Steel.

It could be worse!  It’s an interesting texture that covers the suit and to be honest, I might never have guessed this was Henry Cavill.  He seems to be able to deliver very different looks in his movies!

I think it’s a good thing that Warner Bros. released this image.  After the travesty of a story called Sucker Punch, some folks became very worried about this Zack Snyder project.  For me Sucker Punch proved once again that visually, Snyder can deliver.  (I said visually!)

"Comic Con" News

The upcoming 2011 San Diego Comic Con, which takes place starting July 20th and running through July 24th is a bit of a game changer this year.  For one, a few movie studios said they weren’t’ showing up this year.  I want to emphasize that they “said” they  weren’t.  I keep hearing rumors to the contrary but I’m not saying anything until I see the actual news or press releases concerning surprise appearances!  To some extent, I get it though.  Studios can dump a huge amount of money into marketing the Comic Con event and then the movies crash and burn, comparatively speaking.

Or maybe the wrong movies were viral marketed.  Who knows.  But for now, what the absence of some studios means is that Hall H is now open for other venues of entertainment, such as television productions.  Now TV studios can get a hand-hold on that huge 5,000 seat auditorium and pack in the TV crowd, or, maybe there might be just a little bit more room to sit than Ballroom 20 used to afford.

With that said, looking over the 4-day schedule of Comic Con‘s two most infamous rooms, I see some sneak peek pilot airings, I see popular TV series, some movies from Sony, 20th Century Fox, DC Entertainment, Paramount Entertainment, Relativity Media and much more.

For personalities, there are a few scheduled for the big rooms:  Jon Favreau, Guillermo del Toro, Francis Ford Coppola, Dan Deacon and the ever verbally colorful Kevin Smith!  I would always recommend catching Jon Favreau when he speaks.  I have never walked away from any event with him in it and not learned some incredible inside perspective on the industry when he talks.  He’s like ‘the people’s director’ and fills us in!  He talks to the crowds and entertains.  It’s great and I look forward to catching what he has to say!

And most panel Q&A’s will have major talent attending.

So check out the Comic Con sched below for these two huge rooms and tell me what you think you’d like to catch!  Me, I need to clone myself because I have no ‘Agents of Cinema Static‘ (that are going) and there are good things in both rooms on all days.  Also for more details, see the site itself for more, much, much more on details.

If there’s anything anyone in marketing knows, it’s that the first and last impressions have the most impact, usually. The first impression keeps you around.  The last impression more than likely will influence your overall feelings about an event.  And to be honest, those closing moments in Christopher Nolan‘s Inception definitely left an impression with this movie-goer!  But with that completely ambiguous ending that contain multiple possibilities, exactly what do we think happened there?

Production still of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Berenger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page in 'Inception'

'Inception' - Everyone's taking their afernoon nap!

Here are my thoughts, presented as tersely as possible so as to not take up too much of your valuable time.  Do you think I hit the head on the nail or what?  I’d love to hear your thoughts afterwards…  [And if you still haven't seen the movie, heads up!  There are spoilers in here.]

I just watched Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending masterpiece called Inception again… I think.  Unless the first time was a dream!   It’s a movie about dreams that can be manipulated via outside intervention and the premise is crazy enough, but to start messing with the dreams inside of dreams and such could have been a very complicated premise to deliver.  Yet Nolan created such a world within the movie that the premise was a very digestible concept to follow.

Movie Still of Leonardo DiCaprio and Marion Cotillard in 'Inception'

But as the movie came to a close, we believe (were shown) that Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) achieved his personal goal of being pardoned for his crimes in the U.S. and reuniting with his children.  But I have to ask, did he really?

GREEN LANTERN Promo art poster(Psst, there’s a huge-*** version of the above poster w/o the words, here.)

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a huge batch of new, hi-res images from the Green Lantern movie that Collider.com shared with the world. The images definitely juice up the expectation of the fans, but what about the regular movie-goer? Are they as juiced as the rest of the fans of the franchise?

Because of this new onslaught of publicity via the images, I’m worried again and I’ll explain why later on.

    -

    My Initial Concern

    Green Lantern set image

The other day I made mention that from my conversations with the general populace, that there was very little if any interest in the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures movie Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Martin Campbell.

"Tarzan of the Apes" book no 1Cinema Blend is reporting an item from Deadline that a new version of Tarzan could be headed our way sometime soon.  Not only coming to the movie theater as a movie, but as a trilogy of all things.

I am a huge Tarzan fan.  I remember when I first read the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. I was so shocked to read how the source material for the cartoons and movies I had seen up until then, was so very different.  I grew up watching Tarzan call to all his animal friends with that unique call of his.  But when I read the book as a teen, my literary jaw dropped that the call that I had grown up thinking was cool, was really his cry out to the denizens of the jungle that he just killed something.

But I took to the series and read every single book.  (That’s an important point in a moment.)

Over on Cinema Blend, they question how Craig Brewer, who is noted as the writer (and director), could milk a trilogy out of the franchise.  Oh, but yee of little faith!

Believe it or not, I have been worried about the upcoming Green Lantern movie from Warner Bros. Pictures, starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and directed by Martin Campbell.  I was about to write a piece about this, but then this newest movie trailer came out and I’m saying “Whew!”

GREEN LANTERN Comic Con Poster Ryan Reynolds

Why am I worried about the box office performance of Green Lantern?

Because unlike my brethren website editors, I’m not only reporting on the events about movies, but I think I go the extra step and I set trends that some seem to follow.  In this case, I take the extra step because rather than seeing movies with other critics in special screenings, I see films at the theater with you, the movie-goer.  I then have a chance to “walk the streets” and ask people what they think of things. The other day after I left the movie theater, I tagged a few people and asked them about Green Lantern.

Now make no mistake, I’m looking forward to this movie big-time. I think it seems to capture the essence of what the comic book title delivered to my mind those many years ago.

But with that said, I think there’s something we need to be a wee bit worried about, and I call that the “fan-boy affect.” Maybe to be more politically correct, “fan-person affect.”
