Syfy has now taken one of its popular TV series, Warehouse 13, and animated the team in a 10-part series about the team that gets caught up in a cursed comic book.  It’s called Warehouse 13, “Of Monsters and Men.”

Of course, first things first, you will get hit with two 30-second ads.  If you don’t mind that, (as if we have a choice!), then the first part of  “Of Monsters and Men” starts up.  It is a 4-minute clip though most of the first minute is given to pumping up the Toyota Prius, which this web series is sponsored by, so that’s understandable.

Of course, the team finds themselves in trouble via some dunderhead move on Pete’s part, but once past the ads, it is interesting.  This is at http://www.syfy.com/rewind/ofmonstersandmen//

Is Mortal Kombat: Legacy Creator Making a Big Mistake Stalling The Finale?  In case you had not noticed, the final episode of the web series  hasn’t shown up in its regularly scheduled fashion, like it has every week.

Mortal Kombat Legacy web series

Instead, Mortal Kombat: Legacy creator Kevin Tancharoen has decided to stall the finale installment of the web series until he has a special screening of it at the 2011 Comic-Con this year, before it airs online.

Jon over at Killer Film surmises that this delay could have something to do with a season two announcement.  Or could it even be a potential movie announcement?

Me, I’m wondering why the ill-begotten timing.  In television stalling the showing of episodes kills the momentum of a show.  (AKA, The Event for one!)  But to have an episode show up in a timely fashion every week then then not put out the final episode makes me feel like I’m being cheated or that I’m getting the standard network television treatment.

The Mercury Men

After The Syfy Channel had a successful run with Riese: The Kingdom Falling internet series, they decided to move forward with a new internet series, or digital series as they call it, titled The Mercury Men.

Riese pulled in over 1 million views (called streams) in two months time. That’s a lot of eyeballs on the web site. Learning that they can produce content for the web that pulls in viewers, Syfy Channel has decided to pull together a 10-part digital series called The Mercury Men.

Each of the 10 episodes will be approximately 7 minutes long.  The series draws on the same retro feel of Star Wars and Indiana Jones, The Mercury Men is set in 1975 Pittsburgh.

Here’s what the press release description says of the new web series:

Cinema Static on Brusimm logo

This Brusimm roundup chats about Transformers 3 & Batman 3.  A bit on a new online Serenity comic, Emilie Ullerup, Skyline and auditions info on America’s Got Talent.  We also have some incidental info on Grey’s Anatomy, Caprica apples and a bit on a Gizmodo site vent!  Pretty interesting stuff… if that’s what you like.

Transformers 3, Transformers Dark of the Moon promo art logo

Word on the street is that it is post production time for Transformers 3, (Transformers Dark of the Moon).  Principal shooting has come to an end and now it is time to start adding the magic of CGI and inserting Transformers into the story.  It’s been fun watching the details of the film shoots and now I’m betting we’ll start seeing teaser and preview trailers pretty soon to keep our appetites whet.

The Dark Knight Rises

There’s a rumor that it’s possible that Christopher Nolan may be shooting The Dark Knight Rises completely in IMAX.  That rumor is boosted by the rumor that IMAX has finally made a camera small enough that you don’t need a jeep or helicopter to manhadle it!

Sweet.  Of course that’s a double rumor report so we’ll have to wait and see.

Almost Update:  An update is when you’ve gone to “print” and corrected the info.  In this case, I found out that they won’t be shooting the entire film in IMAX… just as much as they can.

Dollhouse, Buffy, Angel & The Guild Comic News!

Dollhouse Epitaths from Dark Horse

We know that during the series run of Dollhouse, Joss Whedon was a wee bit downtrodden about the idea of doing a comic version of the show.  He went from saying “no,” to “maybe,” to there are no plans to do this.  I’m happy to report that now we have definitive news that Dark Horse Comics will be carrying on the torch of the Eliza Dushku starrer in comic book form!  Shiny!  Can I say shiny about a Dollhouse title?  Hope so, I just did!  (But then again… if you read this column, you already knew about the Dark Horse Epitath titles…  right!?  If you were around reading this fledgling website site back in July 0f ’10 that is.)

The Dark Horse Comics Dollhouse title will be written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen and will pick up the battle of our heroes after the point in time where the TV series ended, during the era that we were teased about in the episodes “Epitaph One” and “Epitaph Two.”  Whedon and Tancharoen both wrote for the TV series, so they both bring brains full of knowledge and ideas from the franchise.  Hence, I’m not worried about the title flopping in the eyes of the fans.

Cliff Richards will be the artist and we can expect the title to be released in the mainstream sometime in 2011.  (There was already a special preview version sold during the San Diego Comic-Con event.

If you’ve ever heard of the web series called The Resistance, get ready for it to first premiere on the Syfy Channel. If you’re a fan of the web series and want to see it become a TV series, what you need to do is tell the world about this…

Starz is testing the waters for the web series The Resistance and airing it on the Syfy Channel on October 4th at 11 p.m.. (Yes, they’ve taken over a piece of the Ani-Monday time slot for this special occasion/test.)

Ratings alone won’t be the only gauge that the minds behind the networks will look at, but they’ll also be looking at the social, online buzz about the show to determine if they want to move forward to make a series for television or fund it as it is, on the web!
