Gravity movie review by Bruce Simmons

So here we are, 2013 has come and gone. Everyone but their brother… heck, maybe even their brother, were putting out year-end lists of “best of” this, “worst of” that… etc..

It’s the thing to do.

I wasn’t going to say much about much but then I came across a list of most liked movies over in SlashFilm, based on an IMDb search listing. The list was based on movies that received at least 10,000 user votes, and ranked via their user rating.

The top 5 (of 133 movies) from of that list was

1. Waar 9.1/10
2. The Wolf of Wall Street 8.8/10
3. 12 Years a Slave 8.7/10
4. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag 8.4/10
5. Gravity 8.4/10

Because there are some titles in the list that I had never heard of, (WTH is Waar?) I came to the conclusion that filtering the list with titles with only 10,000 votes wasn’t enough.

So I changed it up and created a list of titles on IMDb that had over 100,000 votes. Using the 100k vote threshold gave us a better list of movies that many movie fans were compelled to vote on and created a short list of 28 movies.

I then filtered these 28 titles to the top-20 movies and got the following:

I like that above list and it’s great to see some good family titles in there.  There are only five titles in that list I had not seen.

J. Michael Straczynski on Babylon 5, Forbidden Planet and Others

February 28, 2010

The latest bit on J. Michael Straczynski and any new Babylon 5 project indicates that despite offerings to do a direct-to-DVD project, he’s standing tall for doing it properly and he’s indicated that Warner Bros has actually gone so far as to ask how much he thinks he’ll need.  That doesn’t promise much, but it’s […]
