Since the release of the Transformers 3 (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) movie trailer, I’m sure like myself, many folk have been tearing into it and wondering a few things on the side!  I for one, when I first watched it and watched the astronauts walk into the ship my imagination was captured by the fact that they was an alien ship on the moon in the 1960’s and that it obviously was something to be worried about, as the warning of things to come in the upcoming movie.

I love the subtly of the scene from the Transformers 3 teaser when we first see the alien ship in the glass of the astronaut’s helmet.  Or when the astronaut was clearing away the sand and it was uncovering an Autobot face.

In a humorous observation, the first time I saw the trailer for Transformers 3, I totally missed the body count of Autobots in the ship because I was more in awe with the conjectured premise that there was an alien space craft embedded in the side of our Moon!  And they were exploring it.  But on subsequent viewings it hit me that there are Autobot bodies everywhere.  They’re all over the place and when you look closely, you’ll see what I mean!  Totally cool.

But now it seems we know that the ship just isn’t any ship, but rather that it’s the Ark for the Autobots.  An administrator had posted a reply on a thread at Shoot for the Edit about Michael Bay being involved in making the movie trailer and in so doing, referred to the ship as the Ark.

Now if this is THE Ark, there’s something to be said for what it could represent…  and I presume the Ark spells trouble.  This is probably the third incarnation of the Ark.  The Ark was a warship from the evil mirror-universe that was stolen by Rodimus.  The Ark originally was Optimus Prime’s flagship of the Autobots.  But who is the guy inside that powered up.

Rodimus Prime

So could that be Rodimus we see?  It’s close enough!  But should I be worried about color?

Others are pondering if this golden hued Autobot isn’t Unicron (above) or Alpha Trion.   Alpha Trion is the oldest Autobot… does golden boy in the still from the movie trailer look like a very old Autobot?  But then I pondered an earlier report on the IDW prequel comic that indicates that at least in the prequel comic, Shockwave is in the story.

But then, let’s go back just a bit and take a look at that promo art poster that Tformers had posted… in most renditions, Shockwave does not have a face, perse.  But then that means the golden hued bot is not Shockwave.

This leaves me nowhere!  Sigh.  If anyone has any thoughts to add to the conversation, it would be appreciated!

Transformers 3 movie trailer:

Oh!!  At one site, they have a real focus on space flight and such.  They take the trailer from Transformers 3 Dark Side of the Moon and do a realistic comparison between the movie trailer and reality.  Some sites trashed on them for having too much time…  but really, they just know what they’re talking about and thought they’d do a 1-to-1 comparison of the movie trailer vs the reality of the time and the moon landing.  Makes for an interesting read, just to know these things:

Indeed I do by now! But thank you none-the-less for chiming in Jase!

I’m sure you know by now, but incase you don’t, that would be Sentinel Prime. Optimus’ predecessor.

I’m good with that idea Kitty! I’m somewhat of a rank amateur on that entirety of the franchise, so any good insight is, well, good insight for me! Thanks for dropping by Kitty!

Unicron, if you wiki him, has “blue eyes” in some comic book depictions. He also had blue eyes in the animated movie. This transformer (in the teaser) looks OLD. As old or older than Jet Fire, so he can’t be Rodimus (remember the story of the Matrix).

Basically my theory is: This is Unicron, who crashed and sabotaged the Ark on the moon and is now re-activating.
