Joss Whedon and Chris Hemsworth in 'The Avengers'

The Avengers opened overseas and movie-goers are giving it is rather astounding opening first day at the box office.  The movie pulled in just a tad over $17 million during a middle of the week opening, on Wednesday.

And these huge numbers are creating a huge anticipation for it’s domestic opening here in the U.S..  And this is just the first day.

THR is reporting that pre-sales for The Avengers is outpacing the following movies:

  • Iron Man,
  • Iron Man 2,
  • Thor and
  • Captain America: The First Avenger.

Meaning, it’s outpacing the combined presale momentum of those movies, combined.  That’s huge, and it looks like that The Avengers will be huge!  Pretty cool that this superhero movie is being accepted by so many more movie-goers than just the “fan boys.”

Shameless fan pitch:

And everyone out there will get a taste of the directing & script writing talent of Joss Whedon…  trust me, you’ll get why so many fans loved Firefly and the series closing movie, Serenity.
