The Bachelor: Emily Maynard Is A Sweet Girl, But Hold Your Horses About The Next Date!

Emily Maynard on The Bachelor3-15-11 Update:  If you’re interested, you can peruse my terse take on the finale of The Bachelor.

On The Bachelor there is one girl that many are rooting for and that’s Emily Maynard.  She has this beautiful air about her… regal, sincere and still simply innocent as she looks at a person with no preconceptions.  She seems to have no underlying evil plan to make it big via the reality dating series.

Last week we see that The Bachelor‘s Brad Womack is very smitten with the girl.  At the end of the episode he goes out of his way before the rose ceremony to make a mini-picnic for her just to let her know he’s not forgotten her.  Then in the previews for next week’s episode (Mon, Jan 31), we were treated to previews where Brad takes the gang of girls to a race track to have some fun, and Emily is one of them.

We’re then shown scenes where she’s having an emotional moment because her late fiancee was Ricky Hendrick, who died in a tragic airplane crash in ’04, headed to Martinsville.

But here’s my question – As I watched the preview with Emily Maynard being upset I was a bit confused because since Mr. Hendrick’s passing, she’s worked in the racing industry since…  hosting a show called Three Wide Life and doing podcasts for The Speed Channel which aired on their website.

Which brings up the question, hasn’t she already dealt with this issue?

I don’t mean to be cold about it, but I’ve been asked that and I can’t say one way or the other what that’s about.  Sometimes you suck it up during a tragedy and then the feelings get subsequently buried because you just don’t want to deal with it later.  Then sometime later, something triggers the opening of the gates that was holding that all back and BAM! Blithering idiot.  No, I’m not calling anyone that because that is exactly what happened with me when someone in my family passed away last year.

But I too wonder.  That’s all.

About The Bachelor Group Date At Las Vegas

Fans are in an uproar about this date thing, and as always, they suspect ABC of creating more situations to create drama in their “reality” dating series.

In one interview about this group date, Chris Harrison, whom I’ve nothing but the utmost respect for, touched on the bad timing of this group date.  Emily had not been on any date for a bit and they needed her included.  The timing with heading to the track is just crap timing.  Though forcing the issue of having her along because she missed dates does seem…  in control of a reality situation, but it is what it is.  [Realitytvworld.com:chris-harrison-clarifies-emily-maynard-nascar-date ]

Then on People.com, Emily herself said this:

“I know there has been a lot of talk and concern recently over the upcoming episode of The Bachelor with the NASCAR-themed group date,” she says. “Although I appreciate everyone’s concern, I ask that you reserve judgment until after you’ve seen the actual episode, because, as you’ll see, the experience actually helped me gain some closure.”  [people.com]

This is a sneak peak for The Bachelor that gives a bit away about her dealing with it and then there’s a bit more at the above People link that gives a bit better inside look at this, from Emily’s perspective:

I said I wouldn’t get sucked into watching the Bachelor this season because I did NOT like Brad on his other seasons. He was boring so why would I want to watch him again? But when I heard Emily was going to be on well I got sucked back in. I have to say I have been super impressd how they have handled her story and how she has handled herself and what has happened. She has been classy and respectful of the Hendricks. BUT it is a reality show and it’s the Bachelor so knowing what I know you had to know they would throw something NASCAR related in there for Emily either a group or a single date. They want ratings and she can provide that for him. PLUS Emily is the favorite of the season.
My question would be who will be the first media person to ask Mr Hendrick about it. How he feels seeing Emily tell their story on national TV when it has been a private subject for so long. I haven’ t heard anything from then.
ps Boring Brad is just as bad as wild Brad I DO NOT LIKE BRAD WOMACK!!!!!

Actually, that is an excellent question about Mr. Hendrick. This whole thing must be making a few emotional scars a bit fresher…
