The Chase: Headed Into Atlanta

With this coming weekend, 3 drivers are safe and and can actually experiment, have fun or what not with their rides.

Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.  But of course we know we don’t expect them to lay down either.  They are competitors.

Then there are those that are relatively safe, though not clinched yet, are Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards & Kurt Busch.

For those not clinched into the Chase yet, I can imagine the stress associated with not being locked in.

Will they survive Atlanta Motor Speedway or not?  Will a $2 part ruin their weekend and The Chase opportunities, or will one of their fellow competitors $2 parts blow up, wrecking them and collecting them.

So much can go wrong, and yet they can’t even spend time dwelling on that.  they have to look to the front of the pack and taking the checkers in the best finishing spot they can muster.

NBaP thinks the biggest stressor is on Matt Kenseth, sitting in 12th place right now, 34 ticks in front of Kyle Busch, who has to put the nose the grind stone to make it in the chase himself.  Of course, he’s practicing his Chase skills in his off weekends.

Last weekend, at Madison International Speedway, Matt competed in the same races as his 16-year-old son, Ross.
And Matt gave no quarter as he bumped Ross out of the way to take a win.  LOL…  good life lessons for Ross.  Check out the info on Matt’s fathering skills over at Full Throttle.

Back on track – Hamlin has 230 point buffer between himself and 13th.  Edwards – 199.  Busch – 192.  So now we wait and see what happens.
