Lowes 50th Coca Cola 600This memorial day weekend is the biggest weekend of the NASCAR season. No, not in notoriety of the race itself, but in the amount of time that this race is going to take.

This weekend, if any weekend, exemplifies the premise of team work and endurance.

Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon put the squeeze on Kyle Busch in the All Star eventThe engine shop has to put together the best engine possible, all the while hoping that every little bit and piece holds up its end of the bargain.

The team itself has to stand at the ready each and every lap, each and every pit stop and each and every caution that may come out.

The driver himself is at the center of this whole equation.

Tony Stewart wins the All Star event at LowesHe must stand the true test of time, driving for all he’s worth for his team never wavering in any lap. Driving as if his tires won’t blow or that a 35 cent bolt won’t give up the ghost on him, ending his run.

And who knows, maybe Tony Stewart will make it official and get his first points win.

Through it all, there’s you, the fan.

No matter where the fan is, we must commit our time with our favored sport. The fan may be at the track, making multiple runs to the concession stand and then the rest rooms, but always coming back to the activity on the track.

Or the fan may be at home, consuming more beer, popcorn or snack bits for a very long time this night.

Yes, the day can feel like it drags into night, but we are here. It’s our sport and we’re here to support it, no matter how long the race runs on for.

Right? Right. Now, let’s enjoy.
