Right now estimates are that Lionsgate will be bringing in a possible $150 million opening box office weekend debut, if all stays on track with the box office numbers.
From Friday alone, The Hunger Games pulled in just under $69 million. This number includes the midnight tallies of ~$20M.
It’s no surprise that The Hunger Games is joining the record making ranks of Harry Potter and Twilight franchises.
Admittedly, The Hunger Games was fairly true to the story, but there were interesting omissions and gaps in some of the character connections we didn’t see here, but none-the-less, it was pretty neat to see the books we’ve read, appear in front of your eyes on the big screen.
This novel adaptation is on a great bit of momentum at the box office. I wonder if Ender’s Game will do the same when it hits theaters? I think that might be a different market… unless our youth catch onto it like they have done with The Hunger Games.
