The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

Carfax 400

-

The Carfax 400 was, in my opinion, one of the best races I’ve watched at Michigan International Raceway in a long time.  Many of the fans commenting over at The Daly Planet seemed to concur!

What I saw in that race was a strong red & yellow Shell Pennzoil No. 29 Chevy all day long as the “vacationing” Kevin Harvick had a great day.  The racing was fun and you know the racing was intense when the announcer says  something along the lines that they’re settling down and getting back down to 4-wide going into turn 1.  LOL… yep, it was pretty crazy on those restarts and because the track is wide enough to support it, we had some serious drama-generating double-wide restarts!

Kevin Harvick won, but not without some contention from Denny Hamlin in the late laps of the race, who ended up 2nd.  Carl Edwards finished the day 3rd while Greg Biffle, who led the most laps for the day, finished 4th with Matt Kenseth finishing 5th.

Then it was Tony Stewart, Juan Montoya, Martin Truex Jr., Elliott Sadler and Joey “I ticked off Newman” Logano rounding out the top-10 spots from Sunday.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. continued to feed speculations on his and his team’s ability to perform by finishing 19th and then giving a bit of a dour post-race interview… in stark contrast to how he lamented on his team in previous weeks about not airing negative commentary!

Ryan Newman had a strong car in the opening but in a racing incident, he was spun by Joey Logano and according to the announcers from what I could tell, he did some damage to the car getting around the track.  To back that up, Ryan didn’t perform as well after the spin, and he finished 23rd on the lead lap.

Of Note:  Mark Martin dinged his hopes for the Chase with an early race wall scrape and finished 28th and Kurt Busch “blowed” up and recorded a 40th place finish.
