The New Droid X Update “4.5.621MB810:” Did You Get it Yet?

An update has come out for my Verizon Motorola Droid X Android OS phone! There’s a new patch for our Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid X phones and I’m hoping it cures a few interesting issues I’ve been having.

Those issues include a phone that turns itself on without prompting from me, GPS that takes forever and a camera that isn’t as good as it was when taking night pictures! Amongst other things.

But first things first… A Warning

If you have the opportunity to update your phone, BE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY juice for this system intensive update that is estimated to take, at most, 15 minutes. If you lose battery juice during an update, I don’t want to imagine the ramifications! The term “brick” comes to mind… so be alert to that.

Post Phone Update

After the update, the interface did not look different like it did after the previous update. But something I think I’m noticing is that my Droid X seems snappier/quicker. Heck, even Facebook loads faster than it was. I’m not saying it’s now loading fast, just faster than it was.

Also it seems my GPS might be a bit faster. It used to take my GPS from 3 to 10 minutes to find itself. I had stopped depending on it actually. But today right after the update, I had turned on my GPS to time a bike ride and it was up and running within a few seconds actually. Wow.

So what’s up with this update for my Droid X?

Here’s the improvement list:

Device Features

Adjusted camera settings will be saved, even after the device is powered down
Improved browser security with the Google Security Patch from Android 2.3.6
Fixed issue where the device may power ON without user interaction
Reduced “Out of Memory” errors
WAV files can now be played from Visual Voice Mail
Improved stability of Music player app
Shortcuts to applications now remain on the device after applications are moved to the SD card

Email, Messaging & Data

Addressed error that replicated thumbnails in message threads
Corrected errors where YAHOO! mail notifications were not displayed properly
Reduced duplicate message errors
Improved ability to access and receive Gmail when the mobile hotspot is turned on
Improved the sorting of contact groups
Ringtones purchased from the Verizon media store can now be saved to the device

Button background lighting turns off while in the desktop cradle

I have yet to test out the camera at night… I tried one indoor test with minimal lighting and unlike the last few months, it seemed to focus in the dark. I’ll give it a few more run throughs and see how it pans out.

Now, if it would only help my new, updated and slow loading Kindle app, that would be perfect.
