As it’s been noted at an earlier date, rather than a Thundercats movie, Cartoon Network will be testing the waters with a Thundercats animated series coming out in 2011.

A little bit about the new series has come out in a piece over at MTV’s Splashpage.  In it they’ve made note how fan reaction to discovering a new series is coming out is pretty positive, though if you look at it, there aren’t enough of us to warrant a movie I’m guessing.

In the Splashpage article they note that they’re using Studio4C (The Animatrix) for the animation, who will be deploying their signature style.

Michael Jelenic

On the background of the Thundercats, producer Michael Jelenic (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) said that the original had a complicated backstory that borrowed from multiple franchises.  In the simpler reimagining there will only be one planet everyone is from.

And the usual characters will be present including Snarf, though in this rendition Snarf will not talk… he’ll just “snarf snarf.”  I’m not sure how I feel about that one.  I’ve always enjoyed quoting Snarf over the years.  Oh what will I do?

Like the promo art released last year, the character art style will be a bit different and the coloration will be a bit less bright.

It will be good to see a new Thundercats rendition.  I know I can’t wait for this new version with Jelenic behind the production.  What about you guys think?  Looking forward to something familiar yet new?  Or are you dreading a modern day version of the classic that will stand the test of time?
