Time Warner To Lose FX & SPEED Channels?

It’s being reported that the Charlotte-area cable provider Time Warner might not be showing showing Speed, FX and a few other channels.

It seems this little situation is about money and if their resolution doesn’t resolve itself, these and other channels could go dark come January 1st. It’s January 1st because their contract comes to a close on December 31st.

In some markets in the region, this could possibly also extend to the main channel from Fox that airas Glee, House M.D. and American Idol.  (Oh my… that could lead to American Riots if Idol is capped.)

Know Who To Be Mad At:

The dark channels will be a result of News Corp (Fox parent company) pulling the channels because they’re asking for more money while Time Warner is digging in and trying to save the consumer price rate increases.

I can see why Fox is doing this.  FX pays out millions of dollars to get the broadcast right for cable first-run mega-hit movies and now they’re trying to recoup it from not just the advertisers, but the also consumer.  That’s because if Fox hits Time-Warner with bigger fees, Time Warner will probably have to pass that on to you too.

To my NASCAR readership, you know where this hits us… in the Speed pocket.  But we still have some time before the Daytona 500 and its associated events kick it in gear.

They’ll probably figure it out way before then, if not before January 1.

Ya have to love it.  The fight over money and we, the consumer / customer aren’t even in the fight.  I wonder if they’re even thinking of us while Fox and Time Warner duke it out in their mega-expensive conference rooms?

Sigh.

There’s more for the local Charlotte viewers over on the Charlotte Observer.
