in Entertainment, movie reviews

This movie and Blu-ray review of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starts here on Brusimm.com with the movie review, and my opinions on the Blu-ray packaging (which you shouldn’t miss) are continued over on my standalone Cinema Static site, where I’ve been breaking out my entertainment news material.  With that said….

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy movie

I have to warn you up front… this spy movie is all about the story and maybe a gunshot or two throughout the entire movie.  If you’re looking for an action fest, this is not the movie you are looking for. (These are not the droids you are looking for!)

With that said… again…

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starts with a failed MI6 operation in Budapest…  and MI6 has to deal with it.  It’s soon discovered that there’s a mole in the network and they have to figure out who.  But can you trust anyone on the inside?  No.  So they ask George Smiley (Gary Oldman) to come back into the fold to figure out who it is.

Smiley doesn’t do it willingly, but he comes back, none-the-less.

What ensues is a smart, edgy, low-key spy story that slowly digs away at the many methodical layers of the mole and the spy-world.  Smiley has to make sense of who is telling the truth and not the truth, through veiled honesty and outright dishonesty that looks altogether different.

It’s a worthy movie, that also stars Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, John Hurt and many more.

Gary Oldman takes this role and quietly owns it, like every role he takes on.  He makes it his and he makes each character amazing, but in its own way.  George Smiley is no different as Oldman pulls you into the film experience.
