There’s new news on the street for Transformers 4… well, maybe it’s a bit more than news on the street, it’s the word from director Michael Bay, announcing that he’s hired a new actor to play opposite Mark Wahlberg.
The new guy is Jack Reynor, and as Bay puts it,
“I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie WHAT RICHARD DID. This kid is the real deal.”
The other little bit that Bay offered up on his website was that Transformers 4 takes place some time after the last movie and IS NOT A REBOOT.
Apparently some have been calling TF4 that. Tsk, tsk.
“Transformers 4, is not a reboot. That word has been floating around on the net.
This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.
From what I can tell, if it’s anything that seems to get his goat, it’s websites screwing up news/information about his projects. When he does take notice, he sets the record straight pretty quickly and has his own site to do it with. Sometimes, it’s a beautiful thing to see.
As far as our new actor goes, Jack Reynor’s resume is short, but fortunately, that’s not critical if you do something well enough and are lucky enough to have a Hollywood power player like Bay see your movie and catch notice!
He’s been in TV movies Three Wise Women and Chasing Leprechauns. He’s also had parts in Country, Dollhouse (No, that Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse), and has two movies in production right now… The Delivery Man, which is filming, and Cold, which is in post-production.
Talk about winning the lottery… I’m happy for the actor. He’s suddenly looking like that typical Hollywood fantasy dream.
Transformers 4 is due out in June of 2014. So this is one of who knows how many cast announcements. But I’m betting one thing… that right now the internet and IMDb are aflame with searches for this lucky young star.
