Today’s chunk of news bites include Boardwalk Empire, TV watching numbers, Howard Stern on America’s Got Talent, an ABC cancellation and a few season premiere dates for a couple of reality TV fan-favorites…

Boardwalk Empire on HBO promo art

Boardwalk Empire‘s season finale on HBO pulled in 3 million viewers, while their season premiere preview of Luck barely drew in over 1 million viewers. I can’t wait for the next season to kick it in gear… Boardwalk Empire is wonderfully riveting TV.

There’s a good chance that Luck might not be long for this world as a multi-season series, but numbers on pay channels can be deceiving since they don’t hover in the multi-digit millions, in viewers like the basic networks do.

Speaking of TV

Flat Screen TV

Did you know that sales for TV’s went down for the first time in history? I think that’s due to the amount of content now available online, folks don’t need TVs, they need bigger laptop or desktop monitors.

But it would seem we’re watching more TV than ever before!

In 2006, it was estimated each person watched 32.3 hours of TV per week. In mid-2011, it was up to 34.1 hours per week. Where do we find the extra time?

And DVR usage, would seem to be on the uptick also!

in November of 2007, 21.3% of households had DVRs. In Nov of 2011, 42.7% of households are estimated to have a DVR grinding away, tracking shows they’ll watch later!

I think that was interesting to see!

Howard Stern’s New Reality TV Role

Wait, has Howard ever been on broadcast TV? Was he allowed?

Being a long-time Howard Stern fan and appreciator, Howard Stern used his Sirus-XM radio program to let his listeners know that he signed on the dotted line to join the reality TV series, America’s Got Talent.

His Gig on America’s Got Talent will start taping in February, and I’m sure, will give the series quite the boost, as Stern fans tune in to watch their beloved celebrity rip new ones of everyone around him.

He says he doesn’t want to upset folks, but he’s going to tell the truth, and if there’s anything he’s good at, it’s telling the truth, indeed.

For those of you who know Stern’s style, you know he’s going to be pretty entertaining at this gig. For those of you who only know and judge Stern from his vulgar, schtick humor, if you can get past that facade, you find yourself surprised.

On a bit of a sad, farewell note,

ABC has canceled Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Right now, it turns out that Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is in its 9th and final season on the air as a weekly show.

The season ends on January 13th, 2011 with its 200th episode. But this is not the end of the show, as ABC has four specials of the show coming up, so all is not totally lost.

A Few Season Premiere Dates:

'The Voice' on NBC

Wipeout, Thursday, January 5th, 2012.

The Voice season premiere: February 5th, 2012. (I was surprised by this show… I ended up liking this new way to picking contestants. And for me, best of all, the judges put on a few shows themselves, and that’s something you don’t see in other shows.)

The Amazing Race season premiere is on February 19th, 2012. This will be it’s 20th season. Wow, 20 seasons.

Thanks for coming by!
