The Destiny from Stargate Universe on Syfy

I’m not sure if anyone saw it coming in the latest episode of Stargate Universe, “Light,” but the ship didn’t crash into a Sun, it used the Sun.

The gamut of emotional reactions to their certain demise was predictable, but wasn’t bad.  The twist at the end with the Shuttle was not something I had not anticipated and that was a nice change up.  For a Stargate Universe episode, it was just so-so because no one is really giving it a chance due to their preconceptions of Stargate.

I get that.  There are distinct lines between the Stargate and Battlestar Galactica franchise fans.

And from what I’m seeing, the BSG fans will start flocking to this show wile it loses the 15-year SG franchise fans.

It is what it is.

What I did see in this episode though, was our first hint at Camile’s (Ming-Na) sexuality.  Which will become an interesting issue later on in the season.  TRUST ME!

Reflection Interrupted:

Instead of conducting a required weekly test of the emergency broadcast system at 2 or 3 a.m. during info-mericals, Comcast did it at 11:41 during the 2nd airing of SGU.  Thanks.

They actually had a funny in the show when they don’t die and the Col Young (Louis Ferreira) says to Rush (Robert Carlyle)  “There’s rumors that we’re still here.”

I also think I started to see trust begin to develop between Rush, Eli and Col Young.  I think.

Cinema Static’s Thoughts:

As an independent show, I’m sticking to it.  But not because it’s Stargate.  That angle lost me a few episodes ago.  I’m guessing people are bailing on it.  Syfy isn’t spinning in their chairs making press releases about the ratings.

It’s not even making the top-25 in cable shows.

Oh well.

I think they goofed with this one, unless they’re trying to tap the BSG crowd that helped make that show such a strong performer and have pretty much dumped on the SG franchise fans.  The SG fans are looking for more action while Stargate Universe takes the path of more talk rather than action.  Story driven folks, character driven.  That’s what they’re aiming for it seems.

But that’s my suspicion.  I have no concrete eveidence!
