What’s Michael Shanks & Some of the Stargate Gang Been Up To Lately?

With the latest Michael Shanks TV news about Saving Hope, it got me to thinking a bit.

Michael Shanks was probably one of my favorite characters from the Stargate franchise, but then again, a lot of the actors/characters could be categorized as a favorite.  Maybe I’ll say that he’s one of my favorite entertainment genre actors.

As it is, I’ve only seen Michael Shanks in a few things since Stargate was cut off at the knees canceled by Syfy.  But neither has he been asleep at his career’s wheel though!  Which I’m glad to see.

Michael Shanks was born December 15th, 1970 in Vancouver and he’s married to Lexa Doig (Andromeda, Stargate SG-1, 2010 series V) and they have two kids.

He’s been nominated several times for awards in relation to his Daniel Jackson role in Stargate and has won two Leo Awards: (2009: Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Feature Length Drama for Stargate: Continuum; 2004: Dramatic Series: Best Lead Performance by a Male for Stargate SG-1.)

Throughout the Stargate franchise series run, he’s had some stellar episodes where some hit the heart strings hard and others just exemplify a humoring sarcastic mode dealing with Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson).

But I’ve only seen him in one other entertainment venue since then, and that was his short-lived role in the movie, Red Riding Hood.

But it’s not that he hasn’t done anything.  I’ve only missed his other works since Stargate SG-1.  He’s actually been busy and staying employed within the field of acting.

He’s had singular guest roles in TV shows like The Good Guys, Tower Prep, End Game, Flashpoint and Captain Starship.

But we’ve also seen Shanks in a recurring role outside of Stargate as Carter Hall aka Hawkman, in the CW’s Smallville.  He’s also had a few TV movies since SG…  Christmas Lodge and The Pastor’s Wife.

Aside from that, he’s also been in Arctic Blast (2010), a movie seen on Syfy and then there’s Tactical Force and Faces in the Crowd. Both from 2011.

Michael Shanks in SmallvilleOf course if everything works out, we’ll be catching Michael Shanks on NBC during the summer in Saving Hope.

And, per my IMDb Pro resource, he’s got two other movies coming out in 2013… The Matt Damon, Jodie Foster starrer, Elysium, which is due out 3-1-13 & 13 Eerie, starring Katharine Isabelle, Brendan Fehr, of which I’m not sure when we’ll see this one, but sources say it’s a zombie movie that takes place on an island.

So it seems he’s keeping busy and moving on up the chain of entertainment jobs.  Can’t wait to see him in his next projects, whatever they may be.

Christopher Judge - photo credit Bruce SimmonsSpeaking of Stargate alumni, keep your eyes out for Christopher Judge in The Dark Knight Rises!!!  And try as I may, I can’t find what his role is.  For now.

Since his Stargate days, Christopher Judge has guested on an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles in 2010, and has been in a movie called Paradox (2010) & Rehab (2011).

His two films coming out are The Dark Knight Rises and To Have and to Hold.

During filming of The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher got himself a bloodied, black eye in early September!  Doh!

Psst:  He married Gianna Patton on December 28th, 2011!  (Congrats to the two of them)

Richard Dean Anderson - photo by Bruce E SimmonsRichard Dean Anderson has appeared in Raising Hope and Fairly Legal.

Amanda Tapping, aside from Sanctuary on Syfy, has narrated the Riese web episodes and been on Canadian Comedy Shorts.

She’s also at present, executive producing a movie called Space Milkshake, which stars Smallville‘s Kristen Kreuk and her present co-worker, Robin Dunne.

(http://spacemilkshake.com/   …  I don’t know but does Tapping have to be in everything she creates?  Just asking out loud.)

Wow, nothing like bashing on Amanda. She is a wonderfully nice lady, and does not deserve this. for the record, she has had Michael Shanks and Paul McGillion on as guest stars on Sanctuary, plus two of the regulars are from Stargate programs. Please check your facts.

I’m hoping Judge’s role in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES isn’t a thirty-second spot, yet they’ve been so mum on the character it has me thinking that if there was something to really say about it, I’d suspect there would be more. His role doesn’t even have a name. I hope I’m wrong though. We’ll see…

I love Christopher Judge, can’t wait to see him in TDKR. I’m really missing Richard Dean Anderson, maybe I should check the eps out of Fairly Legal and Raising Hope, cuz I don’t really watch these two shows.

As for AT…..meh, I get the feeling she can’t stand it if anybody else would be in a show that she’s working on. She always wants all the attention for herself. Well alright, I admit, I still haven’t forgiven her for what she did to EU. I don’t think I ever will.
