Who Was SUPERNATURAL’s Matt Riley?

Matt Riley in memory of, SUPERNATURAL

At the end of the Supernatural episode that aired on January 20, 2015, titled “The Hunter Games,” ended with a memorial,

“In memory of Matt Riley, 1971 – 2014”

Upon a quick bit of research I discovered that Matt had appeared in a single episode of Supernatural back in 2006 when he played a firefighter. He was also in a single episode of Breakout, back in 2010. He also was in the 2007 bit, Zombie Town.

On Facebook, Supernatural alumni Jim Beaver wrote,

“So it is with real sorrow that I’ve learned that one of our SUPERNATURAL family died on New Year’s Eve. Matt Riley was a sweetheart of a guy, quiet but with a great smile and a charming spirit. It always made me happy to see him on set. I don’t know what happened, but it’s hard to imagine this terrific young man being gone. Rest in peace, Matt. We’re all diminished by your loss.”

In a later statement on his feed, Beaver called Matt a longtime stand-in for the show.

Matt lay pretty low on the public radar and there is very little out there about him.

With that epiphany, then all I can say is his friends and family have our condolences. I’m so sorry for your loss. RIP Matt.

Hello Nat, who posted on Feb, 3, 2006,
You asked for tips about deppression.
I would say, try Niacin.
If you reply, I may suggest a couple of other complements to be taken together.

Matt Riley was Jared Padalecki stand in and friend. In fact it was his suicide that prompted Jared;s Always Keep Fighting campaign. It was especially rough on Jared because he had just spoken to Matt and he said that Matt seemed happy. Jared also suffers from depression and anxiety as does my husband. It is not made up so people can get attention. It is a real horrible disease. Always tell people that are special to you how much they mean to you and how much they are loved.

Hey Nat, if you’re in the U.S., there’s a national hotline you can call… 1-800-273-TALK (8255). If you’re not in the U.S., I’m sure there is something in your neck of the woods that might be available to you.

RIP
I am so sorry that he took his life because of depression. I suffer from it too. I wasn’t lucky to fulfill many dreams like he did. I became a wounded warrior or better said a handicapped veteran and single parent. I didn’t think this would happen to Matt. Nobody saw the signs?

How can you fight depression? I need tips. Because my lil son depends on me and I don’t see the bright sides. Seeing Matt on his adventures and being an actor was an inspiration until he apparently took his life.

Shane Ireland …… You are an Idiot …….IT Doesn’t Matter What their Role was or How Many Episodes they were on . Who Cares are People Who Are Compassionate for Someone’s Loss . Why Do People like You Make stupid comments. What is “RIDICULOUS” is You. Please show some Respect for those Who Do Know Him and Know His Family.

Matt committed suicide. He struggled with depression for years.

All the people whose lives he was in, that’s who. Try thinking beyond yourself for a second. I know, it’s tough, but try.

Jaap Broeker also passed away, and these memorials, and other things, really show a difference in this show and many others- the family. These guys all really love each other, and it makes a huge difference in the show. RIP Matt and Jaap. <3

It’s very sad to hear this, now that we’re still in the airing of season 10 which is very interesting one, some members are starting to leave us. We wish we’d still see them.
I’m watching the supernatural straight from Mozambique. It’s being enjoyed by the lovers of series movies.

Matt was Jared Padalecki’s stand-in for the first 7 seasons of the show.

Just this past week,Jaap Broeker, who was Jensen’s stand-in during that same time, passed away as well.

It is wonderful the way that you people at Supernatural genuinely care about each other. No wonder the show has lasted so long. Truly a great group of people; cast, crew, everyone connected with the show.
