Looking for a Christmas gift idea for that special person in your life? Or better yet, for yourself?  Enter this BruSimm contest for a chance to win the new Blu-ray version of the entire series of Farscape!

'Farscape' Complete Series on Blu-ray

Update: CONTEST CLOSED, 12/14/11

Farscape, the entire series is now in one happy package on Blu-ray that came out on November 15th!  A&E has done a great job with the new packaging and remastering the source material from the episodes.  The sound, in a 5.1 mix, comes at you in a new way and totally immerses you in the story.

Despite being cancelled before its time, the franchise lives on in conventions each month and any time we see Ben Browder or Claudia Black, it’s hard to not recall the science fiction TV series.

Created by Rockne S. O’Bannon and co-produced by Jim Henson Productions, throughout the expanse of the Farscape series, we followed John Crichton (Browder) after getting sucked through a wormhole and ejected into a universe that’s not his, and followed him in his quest to find a way to return home.

All the while, he finds himself taken in, aboard the living ship called Moya and its crew.  And while he tries to find a way home,  we also watch Crichton’s relationship ever so slowly develop with former Peacekeeper Aeryn Sun (Black).

Some of the Blu-ray details:

  • On the Blu-ray discs, the show is presented in its original aspect of 1.33 for the first 3 seasons, and season 4 is shown in 1.78.
  • The Blu-ray edition of Farscape includes 20 discs with 88 episodes from the four-season run.
  • The packaging has brand new artwork for the series.
  • There are 29 episode commentaries,
  • A new documentary titled Memories of Moya, with new interviews of the cast and crew.
  • There are a bunch of featurettes and documentaries, like “In the Beginning: A Look Back with Brian Henson”; “Making of a Space Opera” and “Inside Farscape: Save Farscape,” on which fans, cast and crew discuss the fate of their beloved series.
  • Various video profiles.
  • 90 minutes of deleted scenes.
  • Character concepts, promo photos and archival galleries.
  • Behind the scenes interviews with the cast &
  • The original TV teasers.

There is only one downside to the Blu-ray package is the lack of the franchise closing mini-series, “The Peacekeeper Wars.”  “The Peacekeeper Wars” ties up all the loose ends of the series, but from what I can tell, there were rights issues that kept it from being included in the Blu-ray package…  and for the hard-core fan, you could consider picking it up on the cheap…

[The Peacekeeper Wars on Amazon] for around $11 when I looked.

Hey gang… The contest has drawn to a close and I loved your insightful memories/comments about the series. I wish I had more than one copy to give away, but alas, I have only one….

THE WINNER from the random drawing is Marie A.! And I’ll find out if I’m sending it to our contest winner, or directly to someone who might be on her gift list.

Again, thank you to everyone for coming by and leaving your thoughts on the show.

Ya just gotta love when Aeryn throws John around the cell, knocks him down, and sits on him in Premiere.

Officer Aeryn Sun had her world turned upside down when she tried to arrest John Crichton. So much for just “simply” following orders….

For me, my favorite moment is in season three of FARSCAPE, “Green Eyed Monster”. The entire episode. It’s an interesting episode in that it’s the first episode to be penned by series lead Ben Browder, and excellent because it manages to really focus on the characters and their relationships after the split of the crew. With no guest stars, it’s almost entirely devoted to the relationship between Aeryn, John, Crais and Talyn, and as the name suggests the jealousy between the three men, vying for the attention of one woman. The characterisation is spot on for all the characters, and there are truly excellent performances from Claudia Black, Ben Browder and Lani Tupu. When you add the humorous pairing of Rygel and Stark, you have a real winner.

Best series ever – of any genre!!!

Very difficult to pick a favorite moment…I love everything about the show. The most memorable was at the end of “Infinite Possibilities – Part 2” when Aeryn climbs up on the bed beside John’s body and covers them both with the blanket. Favorite character is Aeryn – strong female character not often found on TV shows.

When John and Scorpius came round the corner in Nerve and faced each other I was hooked on this series. From then on I had to see what would happen next. Great continuing story line.

Best series every made!!
My favorite character is John Crichton.
Choosing a favorite episode and or moment is not easy.
I will say the episode that makes me laugh no matter how many times I watch is: “Out Of Their Minds”

I would have to go with Crichton as my favourite character ! I love the parts that take place in his head, with scorpius, but my favourite moment would be when one of the Crichtons dies. Powerful scene.

One of (MANY MANY MANY) favorite moments… Mind the Baby

John: And how many times have we been close?

Aeryn: (after an awkward pause) “…just the once?”

John: No not THAT kind of close.

Aeryn: Oh… FRIEND close!

Wahhahahaha! The show was brilliant. Funny, moving, exciting, absolutely gripping. I’m glad every single day that I found it!

My favorite character is Aeryn Sun. Probably a ton of other people’s as well. She’s bad ass and still a woman. She has so much growth from a hard peacekeeper warrior to a person who cares about what other people think and feel.

It’s hard to pic a favorite moment. There are so many. But I think the end of Season of Death. The first “I love you” from both John and Aeryn. That’s just oh so lovely.

Ben Browder as John Crichton is the character that really captured my full hearted interest in this wonderful series. A lone Human shot across the universe that makes the best of what he’s got and stops at nothing to get home. But it becomes more than that. As he struggles every day to hold together his sanity, he encompasses everything we love and cherish about the Human race; a strong mind, love, compassion, understanding, and an automatic feeling of protectiveness over those that are weaker. He gives me hope, if only in the series and I can’t help but feel so proud when I think of the character portrayed by Ben Browder, so dynamic, so inspiring, and most of all, so Human.

I’m hard pressed to pick my favorite moment in the series… Zhaan’s death was certainly one of the most moving, Noranti’s dance in “Lava’s a Many Splendered Thing” was hysterical, and nearly every scene between John and Aeryn sparkled with electricity!

Angela December 8, 2011 at 7:08 am

My favorite character is Aeryn. She has such strength but still manages to have a childlike honesty. Her character growth throughout the series definitely lived up to Crichton’s promise of “you can be more.” This complexity and growth really helped the fans connect with her and was a vital part of one of the greatest love stories of all time. And, let’s not forget how beautifully and artfully she was portrayed by Claudia.

Trish December 8, 2011 at 5:55 am

My favorite character is Chiana. She starts out as such a selfish, childish character and grows up so much on the show. I loved the way John takes her under his wing and guides her like a little sister. My second favorite is Aeryn. She goes from a hard-hearted military person to a fully emotional “human being” by the end of the series. Such a tough, strong female character!

Persia December 8, 2011 at 5:23 am

Aeryn always always Aeryn is my favorite. Actually since the first episode she was my favorite.

Wendy December 7, 2011 at 7:21 pm

I LOVE Chiana of course. My chat handle in old Dominion was KINKOID, a word she used alot!! Great contest!

J. Blake December 7, 2011 at 5:52 pm

Although it may be the obvious choice my favorite Farscape character is Crichton. I loved how, over the course of the series, he was driven to the cusp of insanity. That edge was so much fun to watch, especially when compared to the leads in other space opera series who are usually so in control of themselves and their situations.

John Taber December 7, 2011 at 8:55 am

I’m a big fan of the show and the characters. If I have to pick a favorite it would be Zhan. I really enjoyed the way she was a beacon of sanity but internally in conflict. Great character. 🙂
