Wondercon 2010 Day 1: ABC’s V Preview

ABC's V

In the latter part of the day, convention goers were treated to preview screenings of different shows.  One of them was ABC’s science fiction TV series, V.  I haven’t caught the show previous to this yet-to-air episode, but I have to say that I wasn’t impressed and I don’t know if the audience was either.

Everything in the show seemed “Disney Clean” and rather predictable to me.  At the end of the episode, there was, what I presume, to be an integral alien sex scene and all it did was crack up the audience.  I don’t think that was the intention of the scene, but it seemed hokey.  The final moments of this episode was the best part of the episode… but I’ll be leaving that for you to see when it does air.

I wonder if I would have had more interest in this had it been a sequel to the old series? It’s a pity they couldn’t eschew this and go for the brass ring , adapt “Childhoods End” to a short miniseries instead. Granted not as much high drama and conflict but after a hundred years of B.E.M. you would think that they could accept a tale with a twist as a substitute. Too much cash, just can’t get that story cheap enough and probably not even one decision maker ever read the book.
