Today I tagged the panels for Doctor Who, Terra Nova and the new animated series from Cartoon Network, ThunderCats. I also have a new preview trailer for the ThunderCats show.
Day 3 at WonderCon 2011, the 3-day attendee’s are a bit tired. But there was a large crowd outside the Moscone Center South wanting in to buy their on-site tickets for Sunday. Those that were badged from previous days were entering the center, but awaiting for the convention floor doors themselves to be opened at 11 a.m..
As far as the first panel of the day, Doctor Who, the folks at the front of the line arrived there at 6 am to be sure they had a shot at the front row of the event. Lucky me, they sat next to me. (They were screamers. My ear is numb.)
Let’s get to it.
Doctor Who WonderCon Panel
As the crowd was filing in, a collection of Amy cosplayers gathered up at the front of the auditorium and the cameras collected and went crazy for it. It was pretty awesome.
In the back of the room was a Weeping Angel but it was too far away for me to get to it. The above pic was provided by BBC America of the attendee roaming the floor later on. (Thanks, because it was an incredible job for the cosplay. Serious… that’s an attendee!)
The Doctor Who panelists included actor Mark Sheppard, Neil Gaiman and Toby Haynes. During the panel, the crowd was treated to 3 clips. The standard trailer we’ve been seeing lately for the upcoming season, a clip where Mark Sheppard’s character is introduced to the series and an ominous scene where the good Doctor manages to fix a device that allowed him to hear the voices of many time lords.
Many of the details came at us… there was much Doctor Who love as far as the panelists past history with the franchise, their favorite Doctors, first time they saw Doctor Who, etc., etc.
We have an episode coming up where, well, the title says it all I think: “The Doctors Wife.” Yes, we’ll be learning about River Song (Alex Kingston) in the fourth episode of the upcoming season. Gaiman wrote this episode.
As they were asked questions about upcoming episodes, the panel to a tee were all being rather coy about keeping mum on any details.
Here’s an interesting tidbit I learned today: In the previews for the sixth season of Doctor Who, has anyone noticed that the tenth Doctor’s Tardis has been showing up?

Terra Nova WonderCon Panel
In the Terra Nova panel, we had Jason O’mara, Stephen Lang, Brannon Braga and Alex Graves.
Stephen Lang is always playing the militistic leader in his projects and he belted out a (paraphrased) “Now we are here and this is not San Diego. This is San Francisco. You don’t know what’s outside the fences here….!!!” In that tone he is good at!
Terra Nova is about the need for humanity to leave present-day Earth because we’ve made a complete wasteland of the planet. Humanity finds a rift in time that lands back, way back, in our time.
One being questioned about if they plan on dealing with the effect of our traveling back in time and how it impacts present day, Braga noted that the time travel issue and those affects will be dealt with early on in the show and in a unique or different way. No more was delivered on that.
We saw the same Terra Nova teaser clip twice, once at the beginning and then at the end of the panel.

ThunderCats WonderCon Panel
In attendance at the ThunderCats panel was Producers Michael Jelenic, Ethan Spaulding, Art Director Dan Norton and Larry Kenney. Kenney led the crowd through the infamous battle cry of Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, ThunderCats Ho!! (Yea, he tossed out trhee thunders.)
But they chatted about a few things.
Kenney will be voicing Lion-O’s father, Claudius. From the trailer embedded below, we see Jaga, Mumm-Ra, the team itself and of course WilyKat and WilyKit.
Cartoon Network has ordered 26 episode, but the creative team has twice that many episodes already mapped out. Kenney added he’d love to see this new series outlast the number of episodes the original lasted. (135)
We’ll also he hearing the voice power of Clancy Brown (Grune) and Robin Atkins Downes (Mumm-Ra). And Snarf will only be able to say snarf snarf snarf. But Lion-O will be able to understand what he’s saying.
Lion-O will age through the season from the younger version we’ve been seeing.
On the sly: Kenney added a quip about how Cheetara seems … updated. Then added she was the original “ThunderCats Ho.”
There will be some old and new pieces of equipment in the series and there was a coy answer to one question that the audience put to the panel about Silverhawks… and all we got was to keep our eye out.
If that’s accurate, they will probably market test (IE: TV Ratings) ThunderCats and determine if they want to go forward from there.
