'Thor' movie poster God of Thunder Character sheetWith Marvel Entertainment’s Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger and J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 coming out, this question has been in the back of my mind for a while now, and that’s if these films will pan out successfully to the general audience and not just the fans who will all pile into the theater in those first few weeks.

Up until now, we’ve all been wondering in the back of our minds just how will these new, super cool LOOKING movies will actually pan out at the theaters?

Genre films that cater to specific fans need to tread a fine line between appeasing the fans of a franchise while still making it edible for the general customer so they’ll pile on into the theater also.  That’s just blatantly good business sense.

The gang from Collider.com are attending this week’s CinemaCon (formerly known as ShoWest) and were treated to 15-20 preview clips of several movies last night.

Specifically, they snagged themselves the following previews:

And from what Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub is saying, I think we have some good superhero / alien movies coming our way!

'Captain America: The First Avenger' movie posterSpecifically, he notes that Super 8 may very well be the ‘Stand By Me‘ movie for this generation.  Also of note, the preview clip where the truck gets on the train tracks and hits the train head-on is not in the movie.  That scene is witnessed from a completely different angle.  Then again, we’ve seen that before from different movies.  It keeps us on our toes!

He also noted that though folks have been ‘hating’ on the Thor movie from the previews they’ve seen, he believes everyone will be eating humble pie on that one.  The scenes were from the 2nd act, and it’s wondered out-loud if the first act is that questionable or if the whole movie is really, that good.

Captain America footage made him wish  the movie was opening next week.  The tone of the clip they’ve seen reminded Peter of The Rocketeer.

All in all, I’m not as worried as I secretly was and I’m looking forward to these movie events in my future.
