Word From The Wise: Don’t Text & Drive

The California Highway Patrol issued a report that noted cellphone use contributed to many crashes. The DOT backed that up with stats indicating that distracted driving can account for 6,000 deaths and 500k injuries in 2009.  Nice… thanks people.

If you get yourself into an accident while texting, you only have yourself to blame for that.  It is like folks feel that they’re that important that they need to look away from the road to send a message? It’s bad enough when you see people driving rather dunder-like with a phone jammed between ear and shoulder and being clueless that they’re blocking traffic.

As a friend of mine once put it, he leaned out the window and bellowed at the car next to us “Drriiiiiiiiiivvveeee!”  It was funny to see, that’s for sure.

But let’s take it to the point that someone is that important and they don’t care about anyone else around Them.  At 35 mph, they’re looking down and typing out some meaningful drabble, and they’re covering over 51 feet per second. Me, I do not want to be in front of them. If they hit me while texting, I’ll beat them with their own cellphone.

Either way, there is going to be a cell phone crackdown this July 4th holiday weekend.

Since the cellphone ban kicked in, CA has written over 500k tickets for the violation. It’s not enough. The ban never seemed to impact driver’s usage of their phones. But be it as it may, all I have to say is type it up folks.  I want to see my state fill its coffers up with fine money. I’m good with that.

No, I’m not angry, just think that this issue is a moronic behaviorial pattern. That’s all.  [CSMonitor]
