Walt Disney Studios had itself a smash hit this weekend with the animated feature, Wreck-It Ralph (starring the voice power of John C. Reilly) as it took home $49M over the weekend.
Right behind Ralph was Denzel Washington in Flight, netting Paramount Pictures a nifty $25M.
Despite being out for four weeks, Warner Bros. Argo with starring and from Ben Affleck, brought an additional $10M to the coffers of WB.
Rounding out the rest of the top-5 spots was new movie The Man with the Iron Fists ($8.2M) and Taken 2 ($6M).
This is that time of year when family friendly movies should start gracing our movie theaters so that the entire family can make do and enjoy their outings over some of the long holiday weekends that are coming up.
If the $49M estimate for Wreck-It Ralph holds with no downward adjustment, these 2012 dollar numbers will make Ralph the biggest opening animated feature for Disney Studios, ever.
(The pragmatic consumer in me says that should be easy when you compare 2012 dollars to 2010 dollars, etc., etc.)
Regardless, congrats to Dis for the new benchmark!
