YouTube is coming into the boxing match of video on demand, with an upcoming announcement that they too, will be offering their own VOD services. It will be a pay service and it could start either this week or next week. YouTube has not made any official announcement yet.

Right now YouTube has agreements with Universal, Warner Bros., and Sony and a few independent studios. They do not have an agreement with Paramount Pictures or Fox and it is unknown about the status that Disney is taking with the scenario.

I think this will be a great venue, indeed. Google is big enough and though they’ve had their past issues with studios via their attempt at Google TV, I think everyone realizes this could be a win-win scenario.

I bet it will only be a matter of time before Paramount of Universal also comes on board. It depends on other contractual obligations, I’m sure.
