Zone Alarm Spy Blocker Toolbar Takes Liberties [Consumer]

When this consumer installs software, I want my options. I don’t like surprises. Yet updating the free version of Zone Alarm netted me the Zone Alarm Spy Blocker Toolbar in my web browsers, and I was never asked if I wanted it or not. Thanks Zone Alarm, but personally, I would have liked the option to have this installed your product on top of what I’m already running.

As it stands right now, their installation turned my IE8 control bar at the top black on black. Makes what for me, is an unfamiliar toolbar, even harder to navigate.

There are multiple ways to rid yourself of the Zone Alarm Spy Blocker Toolbar if that’s what you want to do. I removed the toolbar from my tools options menus in one case, but in another case, I uninstalled it so I would not have to repeatedly deal with it.

You can do that by the following:

  • Click the Start button
  • select Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  • In the list of programs, find the ZoneAlarm toolbar, select it, and click Change/Remove.

I appreciate the premise of looking out for the user, but as far as I’m concerned, my readers are pretty smart and know what they already want or don’t want. Please, no extras without asking. It almost reeks of presuming folks aren’t smart enough to handle their own computers.
